Whisky Reviews for Glenfiddich 12-year-old

- This sort of does for sherry in whiskies what an IPA does for hops in beer - It's taking a good thing that little bit too far, where it overpowers anything else that might be in there. But if excessive sherry is your thing, look no further, and at the price it's actually worth buying anyway.
- For my first tasting review I've decided to go with Glenfiddich 12yo and I wasn't disappointed.
On the nose, I've noticed a bit more alcohol than I was expecting, but besides that I felt fruits (mostly pears, apples and lemons) and vanilla with a touch of honey.
Taste and finish were very similar to the nose, except showing a bit of almonds and plum.
apple and pear, honey, dried fruits, cereal, light citrus
sweet, apple juice, honey, toffee, quite light and easy drinking
medium long leaving you with fruitiness and light touch of oak
- The changes over the years with Glenfiddich 12, show a steady and consistent decline in the quality among many traditional good value for quality single malts.
It has some nice elements, but the raw spirit brings the score down.
Quite raw, selecting a glen cairn glass helps to tame down the fresh spirit influence on the nose, however never actually completely disappear.
Very light and suggestive nose, light green fresh fruit, unripe green apple, spirit, menthol and barley.
I wouldn't add water because the taste just fades into nothing?
Unriped apple, bitter, spirit and raw oaky bitterness.
I don't have anything to say about the finish.
Bit alcoholic nose strikes you, it is probably due to its raw nature. Vanilla, a bit of butterscotch, underbaked fruit cake. I miss the mentioned fresh fruitiness.
Water hits your palate, then alcohol burn comes, slight raisin, and vanilla oak.
Really short, dissapointing.
