This sort of does for sherry in whiskies what an IPA does for hops in beer - It's taking a good thing that little bit too far, where it overpowers anything else that might be in there. But if excessive sherry is your thing, look no further, and at the price it's actually worth buying anyway.

Everyone knows. I find it exciting that bottle after bottle and year after year always smells and tastes the same. Very consistent. I'm sorry I drank that too, but it's always good to have a glass like that.
    • Nose
      86 86
      Very sweet and fruity.
Fermented light grapes, overripe yellow pears, a bit of banana bread, vanilla, spice from the wood,
    • Taste
      83 83
Here, too, initially very sweet and fruity, with the already familiar aromas. The wood quickly becomes dominant, initially spicy, then going bitter.
I think it has pretty good grip despite the 40%. Unfortunately, I also taste the E150.
    • Finish
      80 80
First of all quite nice, without surprising with anything new.
Unfortunately, it then becomes bitter too quickly and for too long.
      Help just one more sip.

This whisky must be allowed to breathe well, otherwise the solvent tones will clog all the aroma.
An excellent malt for beginners in the world of whisky or for those who decided to try whisky for the first time and decided to find out what it is.

  11. CellarToberi scored this whisky 88 points Member Senior

Matured in ex-bourbon and Spanish oak ex-sherry casks. Wide size fast primary, slow secondary legs. A drop of water pushes malty biscuits and pear notes to the front; slows things down. Chill-filtered, colour added. Nonetheless, a classical generic Speyside single malt.
    • Nose
Fruity: fresh fruits: pears, apples, stone fruits. Winey: candied fruits, raisins, plums. Nutty: almond, hazelnut. Sweet: candied fruit, honey, vanilla. Cereal: malted barley biscuits. Floral: heather honey, hay. Light woody notes: toasted oak. Slight spicy and earthy notes. Herbal notes: hay. Delicate: light, fresh. Rich.
    • Taste
Fresh fruits on the arrival: pears and apricot on the sides. Develops sweetness: honey, candied fruits, and spices: white pepper, butterscotch, vanilla. Nuttiness. Salty notes on the midpalate. Malty and dark fruits notes on the back. Light.
    • Finish
Medium: spiciness: pepper, vanilla, sweet. Oak, light tannins, nutty and fruity notes. Dry. Smooth.

Quite weak whisky - in every respect - which unfortunately has nothing but a little alcoholic notes left by diluting it to 40%.

  16. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

Okay, mass-painted, nice nose, a bit thin and alcoholic at the back. You can drink, you don't have to.
    • Nose
Sweet, malty, pear, a little green apple.
    • Taste
very soft, but not entirely free from sharpness despite the 40%. A few tart notes join the fruit.
    • Finish
The finish is then slightly alcoholic, somewhat fruity and slightly tart.

  17. Kraddell scored this whisky 75 points Expert Junior

simple, easy whisky - even with a total lack of experience (like me) , you can tell this hasn't got the depth or complexity of a more advanced whisky. Great fun, as whisky used to taste all the same to me, and thus it shows my palet is improving. As a youngster in the genre, I do like this value for money - though there's certainly better ones out there for my palate. A nice everyday sipper, not a seek-out whisky.
    • Nose
      71 71
Subtile, wood- elegant and fairly 'thin' . Seems more alike the Irish ones I had, than the Scotch ones I had. But who knows, I might be very off there. Alcohol is quite present and sharp, though it 'only' has 40 abv.
    • Taste
      75 75
really mellow and easy. Dare I say quite sweet ? Caramel. Mild oak. Quite refined / Sharp elegant character . Not robust and powerfull - but I'm not gonna lie - I don't specifically dislike this as an everyday sipper-after-work. Some aroma's ( wood, vanilla, fleshy fruits (apple) . As always - I don't really recognize the sherry, not nearly as much as I'd prefer to.
    • Finish
      78 78
Fading boozyness, opens up quite nicely. Oak, elegant vanilla, fleshy fruits. Fairly full - though never robust. Well worth sipping pure, but I get why a true whisky fan would call this unimpressive, and a whisky 'to blend coke into'. For me though , it's a great everyday sipper, especially for the low price it has compared to other whisky's i've enjoyed so far.

    It's OK
    • Nose
      80 80
On the nose the sherry notes and fruitiness is up front and obvious. There is an alcohol/ ethanol undertone that's there but not enough to spoil it
    • Taste
      60 60
The alcohol us front and centre and a bit overpowering. Bit the fruitiness of the apples and pears does come through. It's OK
    • Finish

Slightly oily mouth feel for me, but a pleasant enough aftertaste with a hint of woodiness

For my first tasting review I've decided to go with Glenfiddich 12yo and I wasn't disappointed.

On the nose, I've noticed a bit more alcohol than I was expecting, but besides that I felt fruits (mostly pears, apples and lemons) and vanilla with a touch of honey.

Taste and finish were very similar to the nose, except showing a bit of almonds and plum.

The changes over the years with Glenfiddich 12, show a steady and consistent decline in the quality among many traditional good value for quality single malts.

It has some nice elements, but the raw spirit brings the score down.
    • Nose
      79 79
Quite raw, selecting a glen cairn glass helps to tame down the fresh spirit influence on the nose, however never actually completely disappear.

Very light and suggestive nose, light green fresh fruit, unripe green apple, spirit, menthol and barley.

I wouldn't add water because the taste just fades into nothing?
    • Taste
      78 78
Unriped apple, bitter, spirit and raw oaky bitterness.
    • Finish
      78 78
I don't have anything to say about the finish.

Bit alcoholic nose strikes you, it is probably due to its raw nature. Vanilla, a bit of butterscotch, underbaked fruit cake. I miss the mentioned fresh fruitiness.
    • Taste

Water hits your palate, then alcohol burn comes, slight raisin, and vanilla oak.

1479) Glenfiddich, 12YO, Our Original Twelve
    • Nose
N- Classic modern Speyside's core range as it meant to be. Quick drifts of creamy chocolate milk, then fresh orchard fruits with uplifted dried fruit nuances. Think about raisin, dried apricot, dried pomegranate... its all there for you. Candy came along followed by pleasant floral and subtle peppers. Well intertwined, but inevitably mild and gentle at standard abv, but as this is meant for casual quaffing, so would not hold any grudges over complexity. Very good entry level core range. (87/21)
    • Taste
P- Juicy oak with adequate body and zest to tease on palate with fine buttery coffee bean. Dried fruits, limey assam boi, prunes and wood-fire spices. More coffee bean develop overtime. Surprise. (87/21)
    • Finish
F- Medium, tangy sweet dried lime, crisp orchard fruits with softest of liquorice. No pleasure dram with charming lightness, compliment by the satisfying chewy dry mouthfeel. Delicious. (87/21)

B/B- 88/22 Clean quality liquid make up for the light abv. Seems they up their game following with this new packaging. Kudos to those at the Valley on vatting this together.

This whisky has a very high value for money. It is a very good beginner whisky that can also be enjoyed by more experienced whisky drinkers. The Glenfiddich 12 is not a very complex whisky, but it is smooth and well rounded. A good first whisky for anyone getting into the hobby.
