Benrinnes, you’re built for things I love. Up until the early 2000’s you were a big meaty style. I wanted to like you, but we never connected the way I hoped. Now we’ve crossed again on the this sherry bomb, but with your newer light floral spirit character. But aged in a first fill (European?) oak sherry cask - I’m excited and anxious all at once.
This isn’t necessarily a classic massive sherry bomb, regardless of what the whisky colour may have you hoping for. However, this is a classic ‘modern’ sherry cask at its best - devoid of sulphur and complimenting (not completely overpowering) the spirit.
Easy drinking, and gone too soon.
Fruity. Sugar roasted carrots. Vanilla. A hot cup of earl grey tea with cream. Freshly picked tobacco. Freshly tanned leather.
Lighter mouthfeel. Dates. Diet Root bear. Round for the abv. Fresh chives in butter. Vanilla bean Brûlée.
Sherried. Low sodium bacon. White chocolate covered underripe strawberries in February. medium-long finish.
