First bottling of the Whiskydudes to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Dutch Whisky Forum. Subtle multiple fruit layers on the nose. Quite a full taste, though just a bit alcoholic (but easily takes some water). Finish stays behind somewhat; a little too dry for my taste. Overall a perfect lighter speyside profile reminding me of several single cask Glen Keiths.
    • Nose
      89 89
Great nose with lots of subtle fruitiness: peach, mango, pear, sweet oranges and even some pineapple. Also vanilla, fruitcake and a subtle grassy and cucumber like green note finally a whiff of mint.
    • Taste
      88 88
Clearly alcoholic, needs water in my book: vanilla, peach, apricots, bitter oranges, also barley sugars, a faint nutmeg and clear pepperiness.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium to long but preferably should have been a little more complex: there's a short vanilla and the fruitiness from the taste quickly fading into spicy and dry wood bitters (though nothing too extreme).

On the nose, it's a textbook example of a good ex-bourbon maturation. Sparkling, almost tropical fruits, malty aroma's that remind of breakfast, confectionery sweets, honeycomb and a dash of herbs like lavender and star anise. It delivers those same notes on the palate with a dash of pepper and minerality added. In the finish, which is quite long, a bitterness comes along that I don't like. It's not overwhelming luckily. Glentauchers is still a somewhat under-the-radar malt, and I'm glad it is. First half of the bottle had to suffer from a little too much alcoholic punch, that got better and better. Price/quality wise one of the best performers I've had.

great whisky, oily, full of fruit like mango, papaya, canned pineapple, a dash of ginger and ,, old school ,, wax. Even some Littlemillish burlap and grass clippings.
These Glentauchers are a real surprise.

If you want an example of a lively, intens fruitbomb, this GlenTauchers is what you’re looking for. Well done!
    • Nose
This whisky has a strong, foggy and fully flavored nose. Very fruity and very fresh. Loads and loads of fruits. A lot of citrus fruits and tropical fruits. Lime, mango, pineapple and so on. Also typical bourbon-like spices and a certain grassy note as well. Definitely a great nose.
    • Taste
Strong and outspoken but gentle and smooth as well! Sweet and sour. Again loads of citrus and tropical fruits. A whiff of white pepper and licorice.
    • Finish
A long, fresh and fruity finish. The foggy feeling of the nose returns in the finish. I like that. Fruit peels like banana peel and mandarin peel, dried spices like licorice and vanilla sticks.

    • Nose
      87 87
A very nice and fruity nose. Loads of apples and plums. With water: it all opens up a little more
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet and quite some bourbon influences. A little vanilla and spice is there combined with wood notes. With water: More sweetness of the bourbon cask
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium-long length. A little dusty initially. but the fruitiness and the bourbon influences show up even more. With water: even better. More prolonged.

I tasted quite some Glentauchers bottlings over the last 2 years. To my opinion, there is quite a difference between a "Tauchers" at 46% abv or less, and the ones at cask-strength. The latter are much better.

When I tasted this in the shop of VinABC, I remember that this Tauchers is a strong one. And I was not mistaken when I poured a dram when I finally opened the bottle.
    • Nose
      89 89
Beautiful sweet and fresh. A fruit-basket all the way; apple, peach and pineapple. No water needed here.
    • Taste
      88 88
But in the taste a few drops of water are required for sure to tame this beast. Then you are left with a full bodied Glentauchers. Splendid combination of fruitiness and spicy flavors. A real battle between the two.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long to long. Spicy flavors dominate over fruitiness.

  21. thijs100 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

It’s a bit like a Pulteney except for the lack of coastal influence. It’s not a unique flavour profile, it is very well done though.
    • Nose
Hints of vanilla custard and touches of red apple parts, as well as pineapple and mango, even some nectarines. A touch of straw and hessian too, maybe some eucalyptus, but very faint. Slightly floral, and overall very clean and crisp.
    • Taste
A bit chalky and there’s a lovely pepperiness, yet never too bold or harsh. A touch of vanilla and butter, but also some peaches, stewed apples and icing. Quite impressed.
    • Finish
Lingering spices and a soft fruitiness.

Nice, fresh, sweet and fruity whisky, pretty strong and powerful, and nicely in balance. Very attractive one and a very solid entrance for The Whiskydudes as 'new bottler on the block'.
    • Nose
      89 89
Fruity, citrus, then a lot of sweetness comes in, vanilla and caramel. Alcohol is pretty prominent. Then some more fruits, pear and pineapple, with even some floral notes. Very pleasant nose.
    • Taste
      88 88
It starts pretty smooth, only a little tickering, but then it gets more intense. Sweet and fruity again, vanilla, peach and orange, and some caramel.
    • Finish
      88 88
Still powerful and tickering, sweet, vanilla and caramel, with still a few fruity notes. Long finish.

To mention man and horse... '96 Glentauchers has really caught my interest lately, it's got quite a consistent quality. I've compared this one to previous bottlings by Claxton's (ID 103300) and Signatory (ID 93502). This one is quite comparable to the Signatory, just a bit more nutty and citrussy. It's not as floral as the Claxton's.
    • Nose
Citrus, marzipan, vanilla sugar, apple, honey, orange and hay. Then a floral soap note.
    • Taste
Sugared almond, apple, vanilla, blood orange, hay and pepper.
    • Finish
Sugared almond, vanilla, apple and cashew.
