Whisky Reviews for Caperdonich 1969 DT

[April, 2017]  It is the same problem as with all lost distilleries:  As collectors and investors buy these
releases regardless of the inherit quality (of the whisky) they bottle
every cask they find in their warehouses.  So did DT with a felt 100 different Caperdonich releases - some of them are great, others average and a few even weakish.  Let us check this one...

The nose is very nice and promising, lots of different fruity and honey aromas with no one dominate any other.  And this adorable OBF (old bottle flavour) that some people compare with adhesive glue and others with acrylic paint - but for me this is the identifier of a great old dram (hence adorable)...

But then what a disappointment:  The arrival in the mouth and the palate are both average only (at best).  The finish is of medium length max and drying out at the very end.  I expected much more (from the nose)!  Do not get me wrong, this is still a very fine dram to drink and given its original price absolutely okay to buy.  But if you find such a delicious nose you want a perfect body too, don't you?

A good whisky, very rich and interesting, is somewhat subtle, but is it worth it to keep the whisky 37 years in a barrel and get something very similar to modern NAS releases from Highland Park?
    • Nose
Outdoor, moist, dry herbs, mixer notes, old furniture from the array, furniture polish, resin, thinner, sweet creamy tones - toffee, boiled condensed milk.
    • Taste
Soft, light, sufficiently rich, dry medicinal herbs, spicy oak, light peppery wave, bitter chocolate.
    • Finish
Soft, spicy, refreshing, sweet and sour, oak, furniture varnish, bark, dried herbs, medicinal notes, oranges and lemons.

A simple profile, easy drinking but not that rewarding. It would have been much better at around 48%
    • Nose
      Lemon, honey, Turkish delight, apricot.
    • Taste
Its a little thin on the palate but pleasant enough on custard cream biscuits, lemon, faint hints of orange and also orange marmalade. It gets a little creamier after a few minutes.
    • Finish
Almost what I would call medium length but just a notch below that with a sweet finish
