Nose: Chinese medicinal wine, oxidized fruit puree, broken fish, sweat-stained boots, cheap chocolate sauce. More and more dense dark fruits appeared, bananas ready to rot, apple peels, and many more. There is no denying that this is quite abundant.

Drink: There is no taste in the middle of the mouth, but there are a lot of honey, date syrup, herbs and spices around.

Nothing really exciting. Rather, what next. Overall not very intense. For only 44% of the alcohol stings something. You can find red fruit, caramel, aromatic oak, which reminds of smoke and grassy / floral notes in addition to the somewhat idiosyncratic Jura note.

I was expecting much more from the wine cask, but it's almost as though the character has been sucked out of it. Nice, just not exciting.
    • Nose
Quite restrained - some notes of red apple and cinnamon.
    • Taste
Quite thin tasting - there is some fruit and spice, but nothing to the fore, some sweetness, but a little cloying.
    • Finish
Fairly short - some lingering spice, but nothing distinctive.

In 2018, the standard range from Jura was completely realigned. This single malt was first aged for 18 years in American white oak bourbon barrels. It then matured in red wine barrels from the Premier Cru in Bordeaux nac
    • Nose
      83 83
Spicy and intense. In addition, notes of toffee, ripe fruit and cinnamon.
    • Taste
      83 83
Full-bodied and complex on the tongue. Notes of black currant, dark chocolate and coffee. In addition, smoke and spicy wood.
    • Finish
      84 84
Long-lasting and spicy, sweet with dark chocolate, coffee and some more smoke.

Jura 18yo 44%. Dark pour. Aroma is led by burnt fruit skins, apple and sherry. Paradoxical note of burnt fruit yoghurt. Eggnog. Whisky-infused eggy custard. Suggestions of sulphur from the start but I'm not totally sure. Once you start drinking the aroma dies away and any flaws are forgotten. Taste is really restrained and easy. Super soft in the mouth. Some lingering suggestions of smoke. Drinks so light like water or milk. Soft vanilla oak, some suggestions of pepper. The drinkability of this is outstanding. It is really too drinkable. The oaky flavours are nice and there's a touch of sherry. It's not that complex but it's pleasant and the softness and drinkability are pretty much as good as I've had. The impressions of 'sweetness' here are classic - not like modern attempts of finishing everything in the sweetest dessert wine cask possible. It's difficult to pick out flavours here as it keeps mutating. It's just so light silky and drinkable. The casks work together nicely - not too much bitter refill oak. Lots of vanilla American oak but counter-balanced with subtle fruity notes. I think this is very impressive. Not very impactful flavour-wise, but silky instead. I think Jura have really improved their offerings recently. 3.75/89

It seems to me the wine casks are most obvious on the nose and still there on the palate, and the bourbon casks’ influence is most present in the finish. I enjoyed this a fair deal, more than I thought given the reputation Jura seems to have being a bit off with the spirit and compensating too much with casks and such. This is definitely a step above the rest of the core range and it seems some age and not going crazy with the casks is good for this spirit.
    • Nose
      80 80
Some burnt something, dark fruit, some smoke and oak. The burnt whatever is interesting.
    • Taste
      76 76
A subdued version of the nose, with malt. Overall a bit sweeter.
    • Finish
      76 76
Short, a bit sweet but nice. Bourbon influence is clear here.

Phew, that's difficult, it's so unimportant that you don't even know what to say. What a shame, a shame.
    • Nose
In the nose very different from the 10 and 12, which somehow struck in the same notch. Here it gets sweet, mineral, the wine barrel flattens the whisky somehow, the tips are missing, there is no smoke either.
    • Taste
Extremely gentle, some sweet fruit, some wine, bitterness.
    • Finish
some oak bitterness, a few spices, but extremely unspectacular.

The nose was not great, but at least it made you think of a harmless but pleasant drink, and instead you find yourself with a mess that is not clear where it came from, with that cask of French wine launched in the mix without a clear reason, maybe in the (failed) attempt to save the salvable.
A memento for those who think that the more a whisky has aged the more it improves, to be summed up with a "no fucking way".
    • Nose
      71 71
Initially an annoying alcoholic whiff arrives at the nose, vanishing with a little aeration, highlighting the fruity aromas of pineapple, mango, candied orange and hazelnut. Caramel, nutmeg and milk chocolate flakes complete the bouquet, rather simple but pleasant. Background woodiness.
    • Taste
      40 40
The palate is less rich than than the nose, with a strong presence of wood that slides on the tongue bringing with it a noticeable vinous astringency. Once the impact is over, the fruity and sweet aspect of the whisky returns, albeit with a bitter base note that quickly breaks the balance, and the alcohol content (albeit low) roars too much, and in the end there is a slightly defined sweet and bitter mash.
    • Finish
      40 40
Fairly short, very dry finish of hazelnuts and wood.
