€350 for a NAS whisky is insane, look how the whiskyworld has become. The whisky aint even that good in comparison to its <100€ whiskies from ardbeg

I know, it's a lot of money. But it's it's a remarkable whisky! You only need one sip to know they really made an effort to make this Arbeg memorable!

This liquid CV features a portion of malt distilled in every year from 1997 to 2006, and this is what's inside... 1997 Cask: Second Fill Barrel, 1998 Cask: Refill Hogshead, 1999 Cask: First Fill Barrel, 2000 Cask: First Fill Barrel, 2001 Cask: Refill Barrel, 2002 Cask: Refill Barrel, 2003 Cask: First Fill Barrel, 2004 Cask: First Fill Barrel, 2005 Cask: Second Fill Sherry Butt, 2006 Cask: Refill Hogshead

I can understand why the called it Rollercoaster.
For some reason the different flavors seem to follow up on one another very rapidly, instead of blending into one.
    Crazy experience!

It took me a long time to get a bottle (actually FT) for a reasonable price (thanks to my whisky brother here at this point).

And the Ardbeg Roller Coaster does what it promises!
    • Nose
      94 94
Sweet vanilla, pleasant typical Ardbeg smoke note (just like the Ardbeg from the good old days), mystical but not intrusive spicy notes, salty sea breeze and, of course, citrus.
All around, very pleasant nose - a typical snoop.
    • Taste
      96 96
Spicy and smoky onset, liquorice mixes with dark chocolate, in the mouth is a very pleasant vanilla flavor. The lemon becomes noticeable, followed by smoked bacon dried in the salty sea air. The smoke / ash is there, but spreads wonderfully with all the other flavors - a balanced balance of flavors.
And constantly present the pleasant / unobtrusive sweetness. The wood comes a bit soft and mild over, just as I like it.
The spice I identify as "Italian herbs" with a certain ginger sharpness (but not at all violent).
Actually, you could almost think, candied ginger in citrus and vanilla coated. In addition, bacon with maple syrup.
And the balance of sweet and salty is very balanced.
    • Finish
      93 93
      Long-lasting !

Sweetness in the mouth is slowly replaced by the smoky (actually slightly "ashen") taste.
And then the sweetie comes back and fills the entire mouth again (I'll say marshmallows around the campfire).

Overall for me a very balanced and interesting Ardbeg.

    a great Ardbeg
Beautifully integrated peat smoke nicely pervaded with sweetness
    long lasting and intense
for an Ardbeg fan just the right to refresh the love ... schwärm

    Yes, I'm in heaven
    my tasting notes from 16.03.2014
    • Nose
Smoke, bog, fog, sea, islay, wild sloes,
      port
      old ship wood
      chocolate
      a little old port
    • Taste
from the port blows the slightly sharp smoke of the smokehouse
in the old Port wine barrel is a ship's jam
You want to get it out
turn the barrel to the side
      it falls to the ground
Heather and dull moor smell rise up
Your old leather boots will get damp from the bog water
      the dew is stuck
You reach into your jacket pocket for your knife
dry chocolate crumbles in your hand ...
You take your fingers to your lips
the old port wine from the barrel sticks to them and mixes in your mouth with the dark dry chocolate ... ..mmmh
    • Finish
      long
      very long
      Wood
      chocolate
      malt sweetness
      tobacco
      smoke
      something fish
      liquorice
      peat
      >> Tobacco smoke with malt sweetness
in the throat long warming peat smoke

For the most part, the balance is right, but the tension is not really good. I wouldn't pay more than the issue price at the time for a whole bottle. You can find the detailed review here: https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2021/09/22/ardbeg-committee-releases/

First of all: this is a delicious whisky, no question about it. However, the alcohol and the heat associated with it bothers a lot. Presumably this is a sign of youth that the older vintages cannot compensate for in the whisky. Of course, I also understand the concept of this whisky, but the younger vintages destroy a lot of what the older vintages build up. That leaves me ambivalent. On the one hand I like it and it also makes it fresh, on the other hand it interferes with the enjoyment.
    • Nose
The alcohol bites the nose immediately, then immediately mineral, a few citrus notes, gooseberries, there is also vanilla, as well as some honey, the dry smoke runs through everything, slightly menthol-like and now and then also phenolic, such a touch
    • Taste
Here, too, the alcohol dominates, but then also the dry smoke, the mineral, a hint of vanilla, honey, in between a little citrus and also very slightly menthol-like
    • Finish
The mineral note is also present, slightly bitter and somewhat malty, it slowly disappears, always warming
