- Try in the 1920's Belnders glass.
I like the nose best.
Mouth and finish are a bit more reserved and not as complex.
The first impression immediately after pouring is rather reserved. A little glue, cereals, subdued yellow fruits, hints of honey.
Almost no alcohol in the nose.
After a while it opens up more, there are more fruit notes, vanilla, apple and citrus.
Is getting more and more pleasant, definitely takes time!
In the mouth it is fully there.
Very strong start!
Lime on the tongue, saltiness, freshly squeezed lemon, dry, a bit sparse ... hardly any fruit. Light beer note, malt.
Long ... but not particularly complex. The oak takes command and becomes slightly bitter. Salt and lemon.
- [Quick festival note] Woooooow ! This one is a really ninja-malt ; the nose is rather "okay" but nothing to write home about, pretty classic for Ben Nevis but not in a very fruity or complex way. And then when you don't expect anything special anymore, BOOM, palate ! Enormous decaying exotic fruits explosion, really superlative.
(PS : read Serge's notes a posteriori and it seems like we had the exact same feeling ! This palate is a fragmentation grenade after the nose. If only the nose was on par, we'd have an absolute killer).
Creamy, buttery and quite hazelnutty - this is rather classic Ben Nevis here. Vanilla and quite a lot of fudge. A slight funky vegetal side coming afterwards. This is very pleasant but rather static ; I think it lacks either a bit of fruits or a bit of complexity.
Hooooooly smokes, what happened ? Another malt completely, this is right from the get go an *explosion* of funky decaying tropical fruits (and I mean really tropical) like jack fruit, cherimoya, overdone mango, very "fleshy" in a way. Some kind of funky fruit punch that would have gone a bit off somehow. Oranges. This palate is really ... wow !
Bitter orange, still some kind of decaying funk, hazelnuts.
