I rate my whisky's privately with a ten-point scale
(XX, X of 10.0)!
Smell / nose
Heavy oily streaks in the glass. Cool start, a hint of clove hovers next to the rich cherries, very fruity overall with a slightly sour touch (could come from the sulfur typical of Craigellachia), roasted grain. Later light vanilla, orange zest with honey glaze, caramel / toffee. The orange becomes more intense with each sip. After a long time, tobacco comes.
Taste / mouth
Strong, full, dry. Full load of bitter cocoa, followed by a pleasant pinch of black pepper. Nuts join in, juicy ripe oranges, tingling oak (becomes more dominant with every sip).
The dryness suggests hints of light smoke.
Departure / throat
Medium - long, warming with spices (gingerbread), orange.
Series 2/3 is eagerly awaited !! For just 7 years this Craigellachie is terrific and loaded with flavors!
