Very interesting on the nose (sweet strawberry cake with mint). The taste is simply too bitter for me with a clear oak / malt note, which I personally don't like. He needs a follow-up test with drops of water after a while. I found the 'Signature One' to be more harmonious and diverse.
Here I am doing a follow-up test again, maybe. I just had a bad day ...
    > The follow-up test after a few months was no better either.
What irritates me personally is the fact that many whisky connoisseurs love and praise the whisky, while a no less large number dislike the whisky and describe it as too bitter. Vlt. the 6600 bottles were filled in "internal" batches, while one barrel selection was very good, and the other batch was possibly not so good barrels ... is just a guess, because I can't explain the clear differences in any other way - different Tastes or not.
    • Nose
      80 80
Sherry aroma together with red dried fruits, but not dominant. The malt note is there, but not as pronounced. In contrast, I notice a combination of strawberry (sweet strawberry cake) and mint more clearly. The longer he breathes, the clearer I have a fruity-sweet strawberry cake. Nice!
In the post-test I have fermented fruits, but they don't go down that well for me ... Well, the strawberry aroma with mint comes through again. But this 'Two' can't really captivate me.
    • Taste
      70 70
first soft, then peppery. Oak note with strong malt together with a creamy dark / tart chocolate. Becomes very bitter (oak-malt bitterness) at the back. (He may need a drop of water at this point - a follow-up test is needed).
    • Finish
      70 70
medium to long. I no longer find any fruit notes, with me this oak-malt bitterness lays on the tongue and then lingers for a very long time. I think it's a bit of a shame. A nut aroma is added later; has something of a bitter almond.

Apparently this is just a 3 yo toddler, but as we’ve come to known: age isn’t everything, so …The amarone cask matured is already quite well established for its young age and it really does stands it ground. Well done, indeed.
    • Nose
quite a bit more expressive than the Signature 1: a lot of dark and red fruit, with cherries and berries, almonds, honeysuckle, but also a bit of that grassy/straw and wood (do we perhaps detect a bit of a signature flavour here?). With a drop of water, a bit of a funk note comes forward.
    • Taste
a rather active, almost dramtic wine cask influence – you could definitely say the amarone casks are giving the more traditional sherry casks a run for their money in this case. For only a 3 year old, this is already quite well matured, with the wood shining through and some candy (Haribo bears) as well.
    • Finish
dry and medium long, yet in this case, a drop of water didn’t really affect things

I like it surprisingly well, although it is nothing special. It is pretty easy to drink, has no bad notes and is easy to drink. You can buy with a clear conscience for the low age, the moderate price and the fact that it is a barrel strength.
    • Nose
      86 86
Hay, malt, sweet apricot jam, later chocolate. The alcohol is a bit pungent.
    • Taste
      86 86
Very oily texture. Solvents, sweet dark fruits. Later pepper. The alcohol tingles a little, but is well integrated
    • Finish
      85 85
medium length with nutty oak. Mouth drying

A very nice whisky. Lots of fruit, blackberries, strawberries, a little bit of kish. On the palate you notice the alcohol, sweetness, salivation, astringent, but not necessarily unpleasant. The finish is medium long and again characterized by a fruit compote.
A little water does not harm him in my opinion, it becomes a little milder, smoother ... but not worse.
You can still fill many of these at St. Kilian. I like him very much

    - A mixture of different fruits: plum, plum, apricot, fruit compote
    - you can drink well with and without water
whereby a better fruit aroma can be felt with water
    - much better than the ONE

This second single malt bottling from St Kilian Distillers matured for at least three years exclusively in sweet Amarone red wine casks of different sizes, which clearly dominate the aroma and taste. Wonderful red fruit notes of raspberries and strawberries result with creamy vanilla and decent oak spice in a harmonious whole, which was bottled at 54.2% abv. Not too strong and therefore excellent to enjoy without water. This second bottling convinces despite its youthfulness with strong and harmonious aromas. St Kilian Distillers - certainly a distillery that should be on the radar screen in the future!

I thank St. Kilian Distillers for the complimentary sample.

    • Nose
Fruity start on the nose with red berries - raspberry and strawberry in particular - followed by a sweet note of malted barley. Fresh with a touch of mint and white pepper in the back.
    • Taste
Sweet and creamy on the palate with vanilla and delicate raspberry sorbet. This is accompanied by a warming spicy mix of pepper and oak followed by a whiff of cocoa towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is long, warm and creamy with sticky fruit jam and caramel. Becomes slightly dry on the tail with oak spice, subtle tannins and a hint of bitter almonds.

With water: There's more red berries on the nose when a few drops of water are added. On the palate, the alcoholic warmth is tamed while more fruit and creamy vanilla are coming through. The finish shows medium length with sticky fruit and less bitter notes towards the end.

Fruity with light sweetness, pleasant heaviness in the background. Light bulb perceptible.
    • Taste
      84 84
Tasty filling in the mouth, initially a lot of fruit, then delicious marzipan. The alcohol is very well integrated.
    • Finish
      81 81
Medium length with a light, pleasant wood note.
