Whisky Reviews for Macduff 2006 SMWS 6.31

- First impression is a bit biting for me. Sweet and a bit fruity like orange, but always a bit bitter. Herbs in the background, but the bitterness stays with me. Unfortunately. With a little water more fruit jam with barley notes.
- SMWS notes:
Sweet, natural and full of the raw barley. Lots of trail mix, warm fragrant wood shavings and freshly bailed hay. It continues with orange pith, straw mats, fruity muesli, green apple and fizzy sweeties. A dusty hen coop. With reduction there is putty, wood spice, pear eau de vie, zingy salad dressing and wild strawberries. A scatter of toasted hazelnuts and some vanilla slices. The palate is initially buttery and custardy with a toasty warmth and herbal resin notes. Some charred oak, orange oils and marzipan. Water brings out cola cubes, crushed ivy, buttered toast, marmalade and apricot jam. A chunk of sweet flapjack with creamy textural tones and a pang of medicine balls.
