This Girvan offers a bit of everything and lots of sugary sweetness with plenty of power. With the right water ratio, which it tolerates well, it is quite tasty and I like it.
    • Nose
The first thing that comes to mind is a "clear" sweetness, I can't describe it any other way. Lamp oil and a slight tingling in the nose, plus there is plenty of fondant, pastries, accompanied by light oak notes.
    • Taste
Wow, he's starting, strong! A little water tames it and I can keep it in my mouth longer. he is cute I find fondant again or vice versa, in any case the sugar note is prominent. Sweet pastries, I have to think of pastries, especially Americans with frosting and cotton candy. Fruity notes mix in, but I can't pinpoint them, or rather I don't want any associations.
    • Finish
Warm and what is very nice: Some tobacco mixes in with the sweetness. The mouthfeel is dry and astringent. With black tea with sugar, the finish is powerful and quite long. At the end he says goodbye with cinnamon stars and liquorice.

First of all, this is somewhere between rock-solid and delicious. The Girvanfunk I've felt on my few trips there is somehow there, too. I also find it very fascinating that there is a lot of talk about glue notes in the base. I know these very well and I really can't find it here.

Overall a very nice grain, I really like it.
    • Nose
      88 88
Sharp (alcohol) and shy to start off, but this is a 25 year old whisky so give it time.

You'll get a sweet nose (honey/vanilla) with a nice influence of red fruits from the port cask. Also a hint of glue/rum, but it's not disturbing or dominating.
    • Taste
      89 89
Sweet onset, then the red fruits from the port cask kick back in and it also develops an earthy note which is quite nice. I think this is a real drinker's whisky - whereas the nose was initially quite alcoholic you don't really notice the alcohol in the taste. It's a dangerous whisky as you want to keep sipping it.
    • Finish
      86 86
This is where you notice it's a grain. The finish isn't very long and it's basically a continuation of the taste, mostly on port notes and the earthy note. No real bitterness which is nice.
