  1. DramGoodLife scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
A dusty aroma at first whiff, a slight fino and winey note is lurking. Dried coconut, some ripe green pears and some honey. A soft smokiness and limestone notes are creeping in, those classic Springbank notes you'd expect and love.
With time it starts to open and even more fruity notes appear, it literally begins to nose like a glass of peat reek infused pineapple juice.
    • Taste
Strong spiciness on arrival, a blast of ginger and pepper. It's getting a little fruity with mango and apricot notes.
After having a breathe it still keeps its pepper spice, the fruitiness picks up but there also a noticeable funky note making itself known. And with time it becomes the driving force in the palate.
    • Finish
Some funkiness here, vegetal notes with some old and smoke last for a long finish.

Coconut, pineapple, vanilla, herbs, cereals, hay, yellow fruits, white pepper, very good

Still available at retail price so why pay an inflated secondary price? Its very expensive for a 24 year old springbank and not the easiest and most approachable profile but i think it excellent

side by side with the OB 24 https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/130102/springbank-24-year-old#note-container

this crusty dusty old springer if allowed time is perhaps a more rewarding if more difficult dram

    Cadenhead Tasing Notes:
    • Nose
Syrupy and musty, dunnage warehouse with apricots, nectarines and pear drops.
    • Taste
Initially light smoke, then kiwi and lime mixed with mango, pink peppercorn, soot and olive oil. Peaches and cream with a hint of peat.
    • Finish
Long lingering mouth coating syrupy fruits. Becomes oiler with hints of cresote but always remains fresh.

I recognise that this will appear in my own self interest, in that I bought this (admittedly overly expensive) whisky and that I'm going to suggest that Whiskyfun's score of 82 is significantly too low. On top of that, like many whisky lovers Serge is a total hero to me, so who the hell am I to tell him he's wrong. But having now tasted this whisky on a number of occasions I can't help but wonder if perhaps there was an error with his sample (I'm clearly in classic denial...), given he describes it as sour and unsexy, and I find this to be pure tropical velvet, and dare I say it, pretty damn sexy (oh dear where is this going). Anyway I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of others who've tried this and who might likewise be confused, or alternatively anyone who might agree with his low score. It's purely a point of curiosity as I just adore this Springbank, I'm just suffering an emotional compulsion to defend its honour..

It is without a doubt a good spring bench but at this price?
In my eyes overrated and massively overpriced!
For this price you get three independent bottlings, which can easily keep up with this.
It's a shame that it hit Cadenhead's head. Cadenhead had already spanned the sheet massively with the last Macallan bottling.
I hope that Cadenhead will get back to the ground and focus on his reputation as a fair, independent bottler.

  15. OKN did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Initial price in UK was 420 £. Quite a mark up for the other Cadenhead shops.

tasted at campbeltown festival directors cut - im being conservative as we were treated to some stellar drams. wonderful dusty SB with bags of distillery character. Profile suits me but the price doesnt ;(
Out of Cadenheads control but what a fantastic old school dram....
