After 2 months, nose and palate significantly improved, nose found a bit truffle smell(?), all smell more balance., palate still young.

    Cardamom & Rosemary

When you taste Tobermory from an independent bottler, chances are that it’s actually their peated version. The Single Cask, however, immediately makes that clear by putting Ledaig clearly on the label. This one matured for no less than 26 years and was released last year in a very limited quantity: only 94 bottles were produced. It’s probably me, but I find their logo has an uncanny resemblance to a baby bottle. But I digress.

While the dirty edge with a bit of peat is still discernable, this nose is mostly about discovering quasi tropical fruit. Guava, papaya and starfruit. Very nice! There is also a huge herbal note of cardamom and rosemary underneath. And the fat crust of an old cheese in a hessian sack.

The body is light, but the taste is just fine. Quite punchy, despite the modest ABV. The sweet, almost tropical fruit (think mandarin, papaya and kiwi by now) is served from a cardboard box and the peat is a bit more outspoken than it was on the nose, making it quite smoky. Good balance, too.

The finish is somewhat long, sweet with a nice bitter death. It does leave your mouth parched.

Great cask indeed! But not cheap with its price tag of 230 EUR.
