- Tasting Notes:
- I like the profile but as a whole it is a bit to 'tame' for me. Also, it loses points in the finish for me. I think there's some bitter nutty flavours here that are putting me off - I have a strong nut allergy.
Apples, banana, coconut, slightly waxy. Not a very strong nose but certainly pleasant.
Very smooth nut with enough punch, apples, citrus, aniseed, coconut, oak flavours
Medium long and quite bitter.
- Redbreast "15 years", original bottling, 46% alc.
Extending: sherry (Oloroso) and bourbon barrels
Region: Midleton, Ireland
Special feature: "Pure Pot Still Whiskey"
Nose: immediate dark fruit flavors in the nose, beautiful sherry notes with berry fruits (blackberries, currants) and mild coffee aromas. In addition, nuts and the fruits are now a bit lighter. Pineapple and apricots, marzipan.
Palate: More fruit and really many spices, a beautiful sweetness spreads in the mouth. Drier, also here is the sherry influence: coffee and dark chocolate, raisins and walnuts. The flavors are rounded off by the taste of baked apples.
Finish: Medium to long. Dry and spicy, the spice runs the rank of the fruit. In addition, a slightly fading sweetness, honey and a little vanilla, as if the bourbon - with the sherry casks deliver a match here.
Conclusion: Positively surprised, I really like the Irishman. A whiskey for all connoisseurs of unspoiled fruit bombs.

fruit platter w lots of fruit citrus fruits & some passion, (90)
mellowing out into pleasant wood dryness, more grapefruit & blueberries in the end. Some glue at the very end, seems to loose a bit of complexity over time/after others (90 / 88)
- Really surprised and pleasant! I tasted the 12yo, relatively flat and I find the 15yo well above!
At first, a lot of wood.
Then, solvent and coconut. Impression of feeling a grain.
Then, the nose develops around vegetable aromas, dried and red fruits, and roasting.
We also feel a background of sherry and spices.
The more the whiskey comes out and the more you feel the influence of the sherry cask.
Oily mouth. Woody, spicy, sweet.
Long and almost mineral. A bit of bitterness.
