"Pure Pot Still" is a term that Redbreast has not used for a while (the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (ttb) came across the term "Pure" in connection with whiskey, and before the American market loses, you just rename the child). As a result, this old 12yo basically has little to do with the modern 12yo single pot still. In particular, this oil stove note in the nose and on the tongue, which makes the whiskey look meaty and absolutely old-fashioned, is no longer there today.
An exciting and delicious "look" into the past.
    • Nose
      88 88
Orange peel, damp and musty wood, raisins, dried dates and figs. And above all, a touch of a warm oil stove. Spicy with pepper, nutmeg, savory and lovage.
    • Taste
      88 88
Despite its only 40% voluminous and thick on the tongue. Sherry-soaked raisins, dried dates and figs. Fleshy. This aroma of a warm oil stove spreads on the tongue as well. Nutmeg, Pepper, Cinnamon & Coriander. Musty oak floorboards, leather, tobacco.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long, dry, still very rich. Dried fruits, grapes, a little pepper.

    • Nose
Starts whit heavy alcohol followed by notes of sherry, orange, apple, banana, apricot, peach, pear, passion fruit, caramel oily, dry coconut, vanilla, white pepper, tobacco, leather and oak. At the end a faint hint of sulfur pulls down.
    • Taste
Sweet and greasy with brown sugar, molasses, apples, bananas, apricot, peach, pear, passion fruit, ginger, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, a little chocolate, cider, vanilla, white pepper, marshmallows, licorice, tobacco, straw, one slightly rubber and oak.
    • Finish
Long and dry with brown sugar, vanlije, carnation, citrus, butterscotch, coconut, cinnamon, lavender, pepper, hops, paper and oak.

  3. Feusi scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Fruity sweetness in the nose, malty sweetness flows over the tongue, spicy and surprisingly long finish.

A very good Irish, very accessible. A dangerously drinkable whiskey that is sure to please even refractories.
    • Nose
Very generous, ample. He offers us a burst of red fruits (rather blackcurrant, blackberries) with a little coconut. Woody notes are also present. Sour candy type "Harlequin".
    • Taste
Fruit and fruit! Red fruits, exotic fruits but also a little discreet mocha.
    • Finish
Moderately long, this time the fruits give way to spicy notes.

Very special whiskey. The flavors is pretty unusual, either you like it or not..
    • Nose
This is candy for my nose. Very smooth and fruity. And lots of rubber.
    • Taste
Pretty smooth. More rubber flavors, but the fruity notes is amazing. Hints of chocolate.
    • Finish
      Short finish, very nice.

Extremely fragrant, soft and delicious single pot still, which could serve as a perfect introduction to the world of high quality Irish whiskey. There is so much honey that you might wonder if they didn't finish it in a hive.

Fudge and slightly chocolaty and a whisp of vanilla.
    • Taste
      80 80
What the nose promises; it delivers in the taste with a shy cherry poking through.
    • Finish
      75 75
An almondy orange dry short finish.

Already somewhat alcoholic, fairly metallic, exotic fruits such as mango, peach, apricots, only come through hesitantly, with a little malt and vanilla, chewing gum, has little roundness and is disorganized.
In the mouth then somewhat fruity, sweet, slightly watery and pale with a subtle tingling spice followed by a short aftertaste that comes slightly bitter after some chocolate and nuts.
The 12 CS is the better choice. Everything is much clearer, more structured, easier to separate.
