    Eight months after the first batch, he has already shed his youthful pear notes, but otherwise he still has so many youthful accents that you can clearly see his work-in-progress character.
    • Nose

      A puree of well stored apples seasoned with clove powder. Young and green twigs, tree sap, birch bark. A freshly waxed linoleum floor, an oilcloth tablecloth. Freshly harvested barley adds some crispness to the nose. Crispy rye bread, almond slivers.

      What was missing in the nose: fine tart chocolate. But there are plenty of them here at the beginning. Starts dry and spicy, the seasoning resulting from a salad herb mix, pepper and some paprika. Dried pieces of apple and apricot, dry hay.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Doesn't stay very long but shows nice chocolate notes, lightly peppered and salted.

    After my tour of the Teeling distillery in Feb. 2020, I arranged a tasting with their core range. This pot still expression stuck by me. It has this great pot still character that reminds me of an old Irish pot still whiskey from the 1920's or 1930's that I once had the privilege of tasting (thanks again Martin!). I will remember that old motor oily character forever. This whiskey not only reminds me of that, but also takes me back to the distillery tour every time.

    - a delicious Irish single pot still
    • Nose
      fruity first impression, pear, yellow fruits
    • Taste
      intense voluminous fruity impression confirms, you can feel that it has a little more%, but not unpleasant, distinct yellow fruits, apricots, peaches
    • Finish
      medium-long fruity finish;
      medium-long, very fruity aftertaste

  7. schengel10 scored this whisky 76 points Connoisseur

    An obviously quite young whiskey - the alcohol is not completely involved. It shows spiciness (pepper), but little barrel character.
    In addition, at around € 38.00, it is far too expensive in my opinion!
    [Color] = straw;
    • Nose
      Fruits (apricots, grapes, grapefruit), trace of vanilla;
    • Taste
      fruity, spicy start, noticeably pepper, alcohol not incorporated, wine aromas, apricots, peaches, obviously very young;
    • Finish
      short, floral, heather, slightly bitter;

    Naked

    I was a guest at Belgian whisky shop TastToe in Boortmeerbeek in September 2019 at a fantastic Teeling masterclass with Alex Chasko, their Master Distiller. One of the whiskies that we got to try was this Single Pot Still, of which the mashbill consists of 50% malted and 50% unmalted barley. Obviously this is very young whiskey, only three years old. I did not make any extensive notes at the time, but will rectify that today.

    Clearly young and very grainy nose with some young apples and a hint of apricots. The bit rough, to be honest. Hint of white chocolate and melon, but not much else.

    Rather light and clearly young, but at the same time it shows interesting notes of apricots, barley, yeast and new wood, still a tad new make-y, but as I have a soft spot for new make it is no bother.

    Short and mildly bitter finish.

    I admit that this is one of the least of the batches I have tried so far, it gives the most naked impression, if you know what I mean. But it does give you the opportunity to taste the style of the house.
