It’s not very outspoken, but it is quite enjoyable. An easy sipper, which makes it a nice daily dram.
    • Nose
Subtle peat and fresh lemons at first. Iodine. This is followed by a hint of vanilla and some green apples. Then ash and tar. Smoked paprika powder. Ending with a sugary sweetness which reminds me of marshmallows. There’s a chalk note here too.
    • Taste
A hint of peat, some honey and powdered sugar. Burned caramel in the background. Followed by tar and a briny note. Minerals. And lemons here as well. It has a nice creamy mouthfeel.
    • Finish
Mid-long, with hints of mint and ash.

Firstly, this is good Islay whisky. Secondly, it's not exactly unique, now is it?
    • Nose
A coastal first impression with touches of iodine and nori, but then some sauerkraut and soft vanilla notes as well. A whiff of charcoal and oat cookies, but also peanut skin. Finally some charred lemon peel and capers.
    • Taste
Nice oily mouthfeel. Plenty of sweet barley, smoked husks and bright lemon zest, but also a touch of tar, brine and ashes. A touch of honey as well.
    • Finish
Medium in length and somewhat drying. Ashy too.

Nose: very coastal, with a chalky minerality and iodine, as well as hints of gherkins. Fresh lemons and sour apple juice. Bicycle inner tubes. Notes of sweet paprika powder. Hints of tequila as well. Uncomplicated but quintessential Islay.
Mouth: very forthcoming again, with medicinal and coastal notes on the one hand (tar, bandages, mercurochrome, as well as kippers and brine) and a light lemon sweetness to balance it. Grapefruits, almond oil, olive juice. Hints of gravel and chalk.
Finish: medium, fairly dry and ashy. Some minty oak.

It focuses on heavy coastal notes and briney smoke, mostly shaped by the bourbon wood. Nothing exceptional but a perfect everyday Islay dram. At around € 50, good value for money.

Aerolite Lyndsay – an anagram of ‘ten-year-old Islay’

Independent bottler Atom Brands is to launch a new range of Islay whiskies this summer, kicking off with 10-year-old single malt, Aerolite Lyndsay.

A peated single malt from an unnamed Islay distillery, Aerolite Lyndsay has been matured for at least 10 years in 70% ex-Bourbon barrels, 25% ex-Sherry Spanish oak quarter casks, and 5% ‘mystery’ casks.

    – will launch globally later this summer (2019) for around £44.95 per bottle.
    - bottled at 46% abv

My tip was Caol Ila. Personally, I liked it very much. Nice and tasty. Immediately added to my wish list.

Notes from an online blind tasting ...

      Light gold

Begins with dry, set smoke. In addition, the associated, maritime notes. Behind it a light sweetness and lemon. The smoked ham comes through only subtly. Ahoy effervescent, paprika noble sweet spice, a pleasant herbal aroma. Behind it is something fresh grassy. Asphalt steam and a trace of greasy leather.
    • Taste
Soft start. Cold cigar smoke and dry leather. Salty - mineral, sweet light fruit aroma. Strangely enough, it's like smoked ice cream and honeydew melon.
    • Finish
Long. Sweet and dry, cold cigar smoke again. Ends salty, creamy with a nice fruit component.

Aerolite lyndsay 10, 46%. Pretty pale. Aroma of lemon cardboard slight bubblegum and raspberry. Nice sort of Ardbeg or Caol Ila style. Taste is soft to start, oily and salty with a nice biscuit oak background with soft citrus notes and punchy peaty and salty vibes. Nice Ardbeggy vibes. The smoke never gets too bitter. Tastes young and punchy yet aged enough to have some complexity. A very well-judged drop. Good stuff.
