Nose: Oily, coastal, briny, tar, engine oil, peat smoke, seaweed half baked in the sun, hints of liquorice and fennel. Intensely coastal and “in your face”. Opens up more with time. (90p)
Taste: A minor explosion of taste! In the arrival; engine oil, tar, liquorice and camphor. On the mid palate there’s alcohol nippiness and freshly crushed black pepper. But also saltiness and a few notes reminiscent of fortified wine and fortified wine casks, like dried dark fruits and small bursts of sweetness. Takes water well but doesn’t transform significantly, if anything it gains in wood pepper. A rough and intense ride! (88p)
Finish: The finish continues with a slight alcohol nippiness, freshly crushed black pepper and some salinity. (86-88p)
Overall: Very coastal, in your face, rough and intense. And probably young. In other words; quite likeable! Total score 88 points.

A youthful non-metallic whisky from Islay
    • Nose
      86 86
Aromas of peated malt, salty, lemon and liquorice. Very young whisky.
    • Taste
      87 87
Again youthful and clean, oily. Peat smoke, caramel, spicy and malty.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is long with notes of spices, smoke.

A cask strength typical younger Islay profile, clearly reminding me of Caol Ila. A very descent whisky aged on ex bourbon barrels. Maybe not so profound as several Caol Ila single caks, but this is a pretty solid dramming experience.

Nice bottling, but you can clearly feel the alcohol on the palate, if you drink it pure, with water it loses a lot of its power.
    • Nose
Sweet smoke after a hot campfire, and BBQ. Strong cotton candy and vanilla. Peanut flips, some salt. Buttery. Caramel. Some green apple.
    • Taste
Strong start, silky mouthfeel. First of all, no smoke, but a lot of sweet, vanilla and powdered sugar. Lime, green apple. Then the smoke slowly increases. A little oak spice is added, but really not much.
    • Finish
Short to medium length. A lot of smoke, a lot of vanilla, a little espresso. Warming.

  7. Archer scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

A young Islay smoker who does not make prisoners.
    • Nose
      85 85
Pearmouse with smoke, vanilla ice cream, honey, white chocolate. Seaweed, warm tar. Slightly alcoholic. Acts combative.
    • Taste
      85 85
Tamer on the tongue than expected after the nose. He has power, yes, but he does not exhaust it fully, remains a gentleman. Slightly metallic smoke, pear, green apple, fresh bark-free branches, grass clippings.
    • Finish
      83 83
Relatively short finish, once you see the smoke. Still some light fruit, light spiciness, coffee beans.

From the last dram in our evening... words taken from my instagram. Pretty lovely way to end an evening.

Imagine I'm holding a dark bottle with a pale label. Now imagine the smell of the seaside and brine spray, kippers fish and sweet churned butter and a twist of spicy iodine seaweed.
    • Taste
      86 86
The palate is sharp with a malty alcohol bite and sweet undertone, more fish oil pills and sea sprayingle with heavy smoke and old burnt peat charcoal.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is medium smokey and drawn out, more iodine and charred seaweed shows up here hit the fishy sweet malt never backs down, what a finish to a night.
