  1. HammerHead scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

The nose is quite nice, taste and finish are a bit sharp, despite the low abv.
    • Nose
      82 82
Mild smoke and vegetal peat, vanilla, lemon, fresh yellow apple, lemon candy.
    • Taste
      80 80
Sweet and sour with apple and lemon, vanilla, peaty, mild peppery sharpness.
    • Finish
      79 79
Medium: a short burst of vanilla sweetness quickly shift to notes of black pepper and toasted wood.

Aroma: 'Sheep dip' ????, marine salt note, algae, old artificial leather. Gradually comes a lemony sweetness and vanilla.
Taste: Amazingly sweet start with light smoke and sea salt. Strong vanilla develops. Background malt notes.
Finish: short to medium long. Intense, but subsides quickly.
Conclusion: An intense drop, but the peat is gone quickly and the sweetness predominates.

    This is not my whiskey.
    • Nose
      78 78
A lot of peat, after-smoldering bbq, bicycle tire and such. It is not a hard Islay bomb, but I can't get any more out of it.
    • Taste
      80 80
Sweet, very thin. Malt, peat, vanilla, light sawdust
    • Finish
      75 75
Medium length. A bit sweet and soon after that an explosion of peat, which in my case saturates the taste buds.

Quite interesting, the Irish notes are well hidden and the smoke is also reserved, something different and a nice alternative, the bitterness makes it interesting
    • Nose
Vanilla, honey, a hint of smoke, some floral, ripe oranges, some menthol and slightly medicinal
    • Taste
Sweet vanilla croissants, some unripe grain, slightly bitter, also here menthol, which mixes with light smoke, which also drifts into medicinal again and again
    • Finish
the bitterness stays for a while, a hint of sweetness and a few tannins, as well as a few wisps of smoke remain of medium length

This is liquid U2 in their 'Joshua Tree-period'. Very smooth, mature, no kick-in-the-face en very middle-of-the-road. In short: A very smooth and softly peated Irish.

Very nice daily dram, I like it.

I was quite stoked to try an Irish peater but this one suffers from a severe lack of body and a flat palate.

Nose: Peat. Pepper. Chocolate. Grape. Apple. More fruits. Leather. Salty. Just a hint of putty. Noses bigger then 40%. …and almost like a youngish Springbank/Hazelburn somehow (WTF?!). Very, very nice nose. Smells older than 12 years.

Palate: Peat. Pepper. Slightly nutty again. Ok…more than slightly. Like licking leather. White wine influence. Grains at the back end with some grass.

Thoughts: Great nose. Not as great on the palate. Still good, but I wish the dialogue betwixt the nose and the palate was a little more…coherent.

    Labeled by some as the
finest Irish whiskeys on the market today, a traditional whiskey with a balanced
flavor and a beautiful finish a delicious mix of complexity and elegance
    found.
    • Nose
Aromas of rose, nutmeg and conifers exchange together with a sweet undertone of mint and something creamy, buttered popcorn
    • Taste
A gentle aromatic taste of warm honey, butter, cashew nuts, toffee and peat with a hint of vanilla
    • Finish
Beautifully balanced aftertaste with a firm, spicy bite and creamy peat make

The Connemara 12yo Peated is a light and cosy malt. The extra peat can sadly only be found in the nose.
    • Nose
Sweet and bulky notes of honey together with malt, smoke and lots of peat.
    • Taste
Nuts and salt, not too pungent. Far less peat than expected after the charming nose.
    • Finish
Short, cosy, no sharpness. Sadly a bit too short.

The peat dominates the whole and hides the other aromas, fishing, perhaps, some spices ... In short we feel almost only peat!

    • Nose
Found it hardly interesting, watery, hints of spices & peat. 68pts on nose for me.
    • Taste
some citric notes mixed with spices. Namely bitter-y grapefruit peel drifting over into light pepper & general spices. Quite nice.
    • Finish
Hints of peat, spices leaning towards red & black peper without being hot. medium length, bit too short for my taste though.

    A peaty irish whiskey, interesting.
    • Nose
Heavy and creamy nose. Peat light.
    • Taste
I can taste some peat here, sweet smoke. Honey, toffee and butter.
    • Finish
Long finish, honey and a hint of ash.
