Whisky Reviews for Connemara 12-year-old

- This is not my whiskey.
A lot of peat, after-smoldering bbq, bicycle tire and such. It is not a hard Islay bomb, but I can't get any more out of it.
Sweet, very thin. Malt, peat, vanilla, light sawdust
Medium length. A bit sweet and soon after that an explosion of peat, which in my case saturates the taste buds.
- Quite interesting, the Irennoten hide well and the smoke is reserved, something different and a nice alternative, the bitterness makes him interesting
Vanilla, a hint of smoke, some floral, ripe oranges, some menthol and slightly medicated
sweet vanilla kipper, slightly unripe cereal, slightly bitter, also here menthol, which mixes with a light smoke
the bitterness lingers for a while, a touch of sweetness and a few tannins, as well as a few puffs of smoke remain medium-long
- This is liquid U2 in their 'Joshua Tree-period'. Very smooth, mature, no kick-in-the-face en very middle-of-the-road. In short: A very smooth and softly peated Irish.
Very nice daily dram, I like it.
- I was quite stoked to try an Irish peater but this one suffers from a severe lack of body and a flat palate.
- Nose: Peat. Pepper. Chocolate. Grape. Apple. More fruits. Leather. Salty. Just a hint of putty. Noses bigger then 40%. …and almost like a youngish Springbank/Hazelburn somehow (WTF?!). Very, very nice nose. Smells older than 12 years.
Palate: Peat. Pepper. Slightly nutty again. Ok…more than slightly. Like licking leather. White wine influence. Grains at the back end with some grass.
Thoughts: Great nose. Not as great on the palate. Still good, but I wish the dialogue betwixt the nose and the palate was a little more…coherent.
