Great Irishman, who comes across as a bit too drinkable, a few more percent would have been good for him, but still tasty and recommended as a starter at a session. Nice red fruit with a bit of wood and a slight Irish accent
    • Nose
      87 87
Red fruit basket, raspberry, strawberry, vanilla sugar, old port wine, slightly grassy, maple syrup, jelly sweets
    • Taste

Mild, dark chocolate, some Puerh tea, port wine, raspberry, plum
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length, leather, maple syrup, acacia honey, strawberry

A high-tension whiskey that offers a lot to discover.
    • Nose
Wow! Gorgeous sweet and fruity. Intense yet very mild nose. Sticky dates. In addition dark wood and leather notes. Cocoa. Extremely varied and exciting.
    • Taste
Creamy soft. But also surprisingly dry. Lots of spicy oak and sour leather. Then a lot of dark chocolate. A few strong plums. In my opinion one tastes the old age and the exciting composition of the barrels.
    • Finish
The finish is not quite as long due to the rather low alcohol content. But it is aromatic and delicious with cocoa and oak.

[April, 2000]  I had another dram during a "Taste the difference" tasting at
    Rolandsbogen.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 80
points.  My notes state a nose with a strong apple aroma.

    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this dram 82,5.  Unfortunately no additional notes were taken.

    Nose:-
Gentle caramel and orange pulps first, layered with whiff of dark
fruits in the middle, some airy and light barley husks, nutty. Breath
deep for the fresh plums and bourbon characters.

Palate:- Delicate mouthfeel, lightly spiced with cinnamon sweet flowing on the palate, matured and rounded.

Finish:- Dry and deep, bitter chocolate and a touch of spicy spice. Hint of warm, short-medium length.

I prefer whiskey from the Irish. This is a very nice drink at a reasonable price. Unlike Bushmill's 10 Yo, it's a great leap forward.
    • Nose
Heavy and sweeter character (a hint of caramel) with a pronounced influence of port. Ripped pears and orange peel. Light, but not unpleasant, artificial flavor. A special woody aroma like a carpenter's workshop and a hint of chipboard.
    • Taste
A little sharper start of alcohol, surprising me, due to the three-way distillation. The taste is less sweet than a person would expect from a scent. Again, there is a considerable sense of the influence of the port.
    • Finish
From the beginning very pleasant, but it quickly goes into dryness. A hint of fruit and wood that is quite dampened.

The smell I like in the keynote good, unfortunately it turns out too shallow, too little intense. The taste is much more expressive in comparison and I like it well. The finish is quite successful, but too quickly back away. The whiskey has an independent character. I like that. Unfortunately, there is a lack of power in the smell and in the finish, which is a bit too smooth and pleasing. Nevertheless, I find the whiskey quite well. I would like to try it with 46%. That could do him good.
    • Nose
Soft, fruity odor, no alcohol, more subtle, cereals, a little orange, a touch of strawberry, just like ... whiskey, somehow classic
    • Taste
Stronger start than expected after the rather light nose, associations of wet wood, but without being bitter, a bit "musty", cherries, malt, of the three barrels, the port kegs seem to have the greatest influence
    • Finish
Sweet cereal, bread with red jam, a touch of oak and bitterness, a little too short

I thing the port is really obvious in each of dimensions. Should be stronger at least 43%, but i really love this one.
    • Nose
Sweet with hints of caramel, peel of orange, sweetness of port, wood and nuts.
    • Taste
      Fruity, floral, honey, and port.
    • Finish
      Medium, sweet and port.

    J. Ch .: 3x distilled, 3x trained, in the barrels after Burbon, after Sherry and finally at Portsale, which leaves significant traces of it. When I first drank it (from the same bottle), it came to me quite dull. But where, where, where, where. It is a whiskey with a pleasant flavor with caramel notes of wood and fruit. In my opinion, balanced but strongly alcoholic. And above all, it was completely different than it was.

Compared to Bushmills, 10 Yo adds an incredible amount of space in the barrel of Portsmouth. So although they are the same distillery of flavor they are incomparable.

Some off-notes in the nose, caused by the portwood I think. Also in the aftertaste some off-notes. This whiskey seems a tad out of balance.

    Overall a good dram, 75/100.

Really get the sweetness from the port pipe on the nose + berries and stewed fruits.

Taste is fruity and spicy. Used to get toffee creeping in at this stage, but my current bottle does not have any of this. Finish is long and warming and soft and sweet.

  20. tomy63 scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

bourbon, oloroso and a year in port cask. Excellent fruity aperitif
    • Nose
      fresh vanilla red fruits
    • Taste
sweet, fresh, cherry and other red fruits
    • Finish
on candied fruits and dried fruits

  21. alectron scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
For some reason the nose on irish whiskies hardly ever does much for me, same in this case - strange combination of spices with some unpleasant sub notes with some faint sherry & port influences mixed in. (71)
    • Taste
Much better than the nose for me - sweet wood, gooseberry, caramel interchanging & with wood and only a small portion of spices in trhe background (87)
    • Finish
      Smooth and nicely fading out.

  22. nijholtm scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Like the port influence and I suppose it is quite Irish (smooth)
    • Nose
Sweet with hints of caramel, strawberry and chocolate
    • Taste
Smooth and delicate with again creamy chocolate, strawberry and chocolate
    • Finish
Medium with hints of cacao, banoffee pie and melon zest

    07/17/2010, conditions 2/5
    • Nose
Straight: sweet, wood, cherry, Porto wine. Dilute: cork, lavender.
    • Taste
prickle, meadow flowers, highly floral, acacia, honey
    • Finish
      vanilla

  24. CrilleVBG scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

This is a great whiskey. Why not 43% or 46%?
    • Nose
The nose is very sweet, so many layers of fruitiness.
    • Taste
Very smooth and fruity. But I want more strength in the flavors. Why 40%?
    • Finish
      Medium long finish, very sweet.
