In my opinion, another successful bottling of Compass Box - if it weren't for the pricing policy. But everyone has to decide for themselves.
    • Nose
      87 87
Fresh citrus notes with clear vanilla are accompanied by a little sherry. Herbal and complex.
    • Taste
      87 87
Clearly spicy in taste. Here the Tamdhu and the Clynelish are clearly noticeable in combination with wood and sherry.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium to long finish that lets the taste linger nicely. After a while there actually comes a little wax notes from the Clynelish.

Nose: orange gest, hint of oak. Arrival is fresh and summer heat. Continues in the development with honey and heavier orange/orangina notes. Banana and herbs de provence. Banana remains dominant in the finish, maybe with some liquorice.

Eyes: Golden smell and fragrance. Nose: There is not much fruit flavor. Wheat grains, croissants, and Hokkaido toast are the protagonists. Dry wood and cocoa biscuits are the protagonists. After waking up for a while, some sugar-free milk tea, panna cotta, and gingerbread men appeared, smelling rather monotonous.
Taste Palate: higher sweetness, more refreshing, citrus, grapefruit peel, Arctic soda, wooden barrel, hot cola. At the end, there are some cheesecakes, milk caps, fruit tea. Final rhyme Finish: medium, familiar bitter bottom and woody taste, small white flowers, stewed fruit Body: light body, watery

    Body: 80/100
Overall: 82/100, the intensity of the fruit flavor: Stranger>The Story of the Spaniard>Circle. In addition, strangers have more tropical fruits than the Spanish, and the circle has the most woody and milky flavors. The one with the best layering and fullness is Stranger, the circle is too simple, and the body is the most loose.

Big shoutout to u/TOModera for the sample of this one.
I've been looking to try Phenomenology, and Rivals.. so the Circle was a bonus to me!

This one doesn't really hit the mark for me. There's still something astringent and sharp that's not of character for this malt. I'm not sure if my sample if off, but this one is a miss for me.
    • Nose
      86 86
Fruity and dense. Loads of fruit, tangerine and cream. It's sort of a little thick, there's a sharp citrus note here too that seems to fight back against the other creamy/malty flavours. There's s ton of fruit here, but it seems sort derailed as something sharp and astringent is fighting them all.
    • Taste
      83 83
Okay, here's where it's starting to break up a bit. That sharp note is more tangerine pith and almost vinegar sharp to me. Oak is starting take over, pineapple and dough are here too. Thick.
    • Finish
      81 81
This is where it falls apart, that bitter astringency is tearing up the finish for me, oak is very heavy here and it dries out the finish, bright spice and pink peppercorns too.

Sun. Summer fruits, melon, watermelon, blood orange, pear. Vanilla ice cream. Toasted wheat grains, dry earth, some citrus, more grapefruit than lemon. Iodine, very light peat. Heather, it must be Highland Park. Sheep milk. On the palate, the fruits become slightly acidic, Granny Smith apple, banana, rhubarb. Cane syrup. Pastry side, whipped cream, custard. Maybe a little pumpkin. Some spices, nutmeg, cardamom. The finish is quite long and fades into a dance of fruit, around vanilla.

    Compass Box ‘The circle’
    JULY 24, 2019GAL GRANOV 0

The latest Blended Malt from the guys at Compass box is called ‘The Circle’, the whisky is is based around a parcel of fruity and creamy single malt from the Tamdhu Distillery in Speyside. This is supported by malt whisky from the Clynelish Distillery. A touch of peated malt whisky from an Orkney distillery and a small proportion of a French oak-finished blended malt whisky complete the recipe. What’s nice is that they have chosen to use an ex-bourbon cask from Tamdhu which mostly releases sherried whiskies, quite uncharacteristic… and some Clynelish of course ????

The whisky is bottled at 46% Natural Color Light 5 Micron Filtration , and Not Chill-Filtered.

Nose : It’s mostly like stepping into a bakery : Apple crumble, with lots of vanilla, sweet dough and plenty of malty cereal notes. Icing sugar, more barley sugar and then some more apple peel with a hint of wet cardboard.

Palate: Starts with Apple strudel, sweet pastries, cinnamon and lots of malty notes, cereals . bitter toasted wood, vanilla ice-cream and a hint of smoke.

Finish : Wee smoke, apple peel, buttered toast.

The Tamdhu is the main constituent, quite a spicy dram, but a good summer drink.
    • Nose
      83 83
      Sweet, floral, soap powder.
    • Taste
      84 84
Quite an oily mouthfeel, fruity, citrus, slight smokiness spice notes at the death.
    • Finish
      83 83
Citrus and ash at the death.

  9. Don Cassi scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

The nose starts off sweet, fresh and floral with light fruit notes and a hint of alcohol.

The sweet impression continues in the mouth and finish, but is increasingly accentuated by spicy oak. Light apple / pear notes resonate permanently. In the end, there remains a little too much dry bitterness.
