  1. thijs100 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Started promising, but the wood was a little too dominant on the palate to warrant a higher score.
    • Nose
Soft candy-esque strawberries, cherries and raspberry. A hint of rose petals, as well as honey and caramel-glazed, baked apples. Some After Eights after a little while. Pretty enticing.
    • Taste
Treacle, dried red fruits and a hint of cocoa powder. Very sweet. Pretty intense spicy notes too. Mostly wood spices. Slightly astringent too.
    • Finish
Drying, spicy. The sweetness returns after a while.

In the Wood Finish series, Glenallachie single malts of different ages are matured in different barrel types. The 10-year-old matured in American oak barrels for at least eight years and then got his finish in Ruby port wine barrels. Limited bottling!
    • Nose
Heather honey and sweet spices with notes of rose hip tea and dark chocolate.
    • Taste
Lots of heather honey, caramels, and syrup. Plum, rose hip and dark chocolate in the background.
    • Finish
Good finish of medium length, warming, sweet and spicy at the same time.

    nose:
sweet, fruity, on cooked and candied fruits (vine peach, raisins, cherry, blackberry) allowing the juice and the sweet side to develop as a result
    honey, caramel
    mouth:
    on the raspberry meringue!
the intense woodiness, melted caramel, pronounced spices and a little badly controlled bitterness which breaks the feeling of the start a little
    final:
medium, bitterness of the almond, oak and macerated fruits, the spices are a bit of a barrier.

Nice port influence and for me the wood is not too dominant on the palate.
It is quite light and fresh and not as 'wild' as the 10 YO cask strength editions.

A painting that doesn't really convince me. The wood aromas are a bit too dominant for me and don't let the fruit and sweetness through. I liked the Glenallachie with Madeira finish better.
    • Nose
      84 84
A little cautiously, the aromas gradually build up. Lots of red fruits like strawberries, cherries, currants. Light honey sweetness with fresh wood. There is also a subtle grain note with malt and chocolate. The wood note becomes a bit more dominant over time and the sweet, fruity aromas decrease.
    • Taste
      82 82
Soft, gentle start. Only slightly spicy with a touch of pepper.
Here, too, the woody notes predominate. Hardly any sweetness and fruit at the beginning. With more time, dark forest fruits, cherries and strawberries come through. Chocolate and some tobacco can be seen in the background. Every now and then something like rose wine.
    • Finish
      81 81
Medium-long finish, light vanilla, spicy and dry

    Honey, cinnamon, plums and cherries

  24. Highlander65 scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

    Whisky pimp, very very drinkable.
    • Nose
Very sweet nose: talcum powder, powdered sugar, vanilla, some wood, coconut, peach. With water it becomes creamier and more cereal.
    • Taste
In the mouth the body is dry, sweet and creamy, it tastes like sugared almonds, spices (pepper) and a little bit of wood. With water it is less dry and sweeter but also flatter
    • Finish
      Medium, sweet finish

  25. Marcel74 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Delicious sweet port, extremely tasty and sweet / soft
    • Nose
Heather honey, sweet herbs, vanilla, raspberries, rose scent, dark chocolate, fruit pie
    • Taste
Heather honey, butterscotch, syrup, plum, rose hip, dark chocolate
    • Finish
Spicy at first, then soft and sweet and relatively short

  26. Falang scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Complex, mature and beautiful with some very sweet tones, and a real complex depth. This is a warm drinker with sugars and oily influences. Lovely
    • Nose
      80 80
Strong nose that kicks in. Something fragrant and flowery like tulips (and also some berries and cherry?). Hint of forest-aroma.
    • Taste
      84 84
This whisky is lovely - it has something linseed oily and a touch of 'sirop de Liège'. I have some young wood, some anise, rhubarb. This is a warm drink with some very sweet sugars (brown sugar) and even some yellow peaches at the back.
    • Finish
      83 83
Dry finish, a bit bitter, and some spices!

  27. RobbievdB scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Obviously a port cask finished whisky. Although this says Glenallachie, the cask pretty much overpowered everything making it a hefty drink. Full on dried red berries, chocolate and caramel, bitter spices. Tasty though, but wouldn’t drink more than a dram a night of this stuff. Price quality wise defenitely something to considering.

Classic case with an interesting nose and then disappointing in taste. The finish is also disappointing.
Time is good for him and he gets a little better. But you haven't missed anything.
    • Nose
      83 83
      Fruity and spicy.
In the beginning I was reminded of Haribo wine gum.
Slightly grassy notes too. Dark berries, but more towards the cherry. In addition honey and dextrose. Smells definitely promising.
But also has an unpleasant wood note, luckily only a little.
    • Taste
      69 69
Boah what's next? Not sweet, rather bitter and spicy. But the wood comes through completely. The fruitiness is hardly there either. Reminiscent of the Trolli apple rings (only without sugar).
It gets a little better over time.
    • Finish
      70 70
Dry, almost rubbery. That doesn't stay much. Some wood.

Fruity, red fruits, some coffee, overripe apples, pretty some alcohol.
    • Taste

  45. DocF did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Smells sweet and fruity. Plus cherry cough sweet. Tastes of gummy bears plus tobacco. The fruit sticks in the finish. Delicious. He is better than the Tomatin Port, for example. He does not hit an Ardmore for a long time. And almost 60 € is very ambitious.

  46. NTC scored this whisky 78 points Member Senior

A promising whisky, but the port wood notes were a little bit to overpowering in this whisky.

Nose: honey, sweet spices, hints of rosé wine and black choclate.

Taste: honey, dark choclate, red wine, anijs, and a light wood taste.

Finish: a medium lasting finish mostly spicey and dry.

A very good for its age whisky, the finish in Port Fass has done well. Tasty, he knows to inspire with beautiful fruit notes. The distillery should be kept in mind.
    • Nose
      84 84
The first crawl brings you the scent of fresh raspberries, followed by teakwood and a malty sweetness. Heather honey, a bit of hay and the aroma of rosehip tea make the whisky's nose very pleasant.
    • Taste
      86 86
On the palate, first a fruity sweetness, which then slowly turns into a peppery pungency and causes a tingling sensation. Again the raspberry and even some cherry, followed by whole milk chocolate. Full and oily. Mint is on the palate and creates a nice freshness.
    • Finish
      84 84
Very round and fruity, but with a distinct sharpness in the finish, which in turn is captured by a beautiful honey sweetness. Medium-length taste experience.

Without any detours, you will experience a sweet and fruity start, with aromas of strawberries and cherries rising in your nostrils. Intense and elegant. Some marzipan and a little vanilla will show up after some time. You almost have to hold back from trying it right away. It's really a lot of fun. Again and again, a fresh alcohol comes into play, but makes the whole thing even more interesting.
    • Taste
      86 86
At the start you get again presented an intense fruity sweetness, which is really hard to beat in terms of intensity. But then follows directly an intense wood flavor. The pushes right forward on the tongue and occupies the entire palate. True astringent, the whisky takes everything under control, but then lets it down again and releases little by little the flavors of strawberries and sweetness.
The alcohol is overall well integrated and does not bother at any time, he acts in the whisky with a recurring freshness, some menthol simple.
    • Finish
      88 88
Due to the intensive seasoning you really got something longer from this Glenallachie. Pickled strawberries stay with wood back on the palate. They still taste really long after.

  49. whiskyinstitut scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      85 85
Juicy strawberries, directly behind a lot of honey-sweet vanilla, some cherries, present alcohol, some warehouse muff, definitely no old but a young and fresh Portweinnote
    • Taste
      88 88
Here, too, a fruity start, then pushes the alcohol with beautiful balanced seasoning, the sweet strawberries are back, extremely thick and creamy, the slight drought on the tongue fighting against sweetness and creaminess
    • Finish
      82 82
Honey and Bourbon sweetness, vanilla, lots of wood, strong contrast to the nose and mouth, but not unbelievable, the fruits can only be guessed
