    nose:
spices, vanilla, malty, a little vegetable too and tangy candy
    mouth:
spices, well buttered gingerbread, it is round and fat despite the young age, dry woody return then a little coconut, the characteristic cereal perhaps the strongest of all!
caramel again with pastry spices (cinnamon)
    final:
simple on the same scents, with predominance of vanilla, woody and pastry spices.
    • Finish
Note that the distille has been making SM just since 2017, before it went into the Clan Campbell blends and that the distilla felt crushed by its big sister benrinnes.
Here a little more than 6 years in bourbon casks then 6 months in a small Rye Koval! drum of 125 l.

Certainly not a highflyer but just a decent young whisky with an interesting maturation. The quarter cask left his mark on the the spirit and gives this Glenallachie aromas like vanilla, cinnamon (goldstrike’ish), cloves, ginger and malty sugars. Given the price point I would consider this an interesting zipper.

The Rye is punchy as hell in the nose and tail, but very well integrated into the palate. It doesn't overshadow the spirit, which even though it is still perceptibly young, brings enough of it's own very likeable personality to the table.

IMO If you're going to bottle youngish spirit, this really works a benchmark for what to aim for.
    • Nose
      84 84
Immediate cinnamon oak spice of the Rye carried by dark, Greek honey, molasses, cooked lemon, orange oil and Crème de cassis.
    • Taste
      85 85
Syrup sweet and milder on the tongue than I was expecting with a slower ramp up of the Rye spice, which as well as the cinnamon now has citric ginger. A little barley betrays the youth of the spirit. Small sips miss out the oily, chili payoff.
    • Finish
      86 86
Slightly drying chocolate, rosemary and leather is complemented by fizzy ginger, brown butter and shortbread. Red currant sweet and sour bursts and a satisfying, not insubstantial heat keeps giving.

It’s a young spicy and sweet powerhouse. Great flavors, just a bit hot and brash.

    Color: of light white wine.
Fragrance: no smoke, pear, very light cardboard, very harmonious, without rough edges, not pungent, reminiscent of Bourbon Cask, not complex, slightly earthy in the background.
Taste: Alcohol well integrated, sweetness, nice taste development, fruit, quite unimportant and one-dimensional. My sample was definitely enough for me.

      Sweet and fruity. Wood.
    • Taste
      85 85
Nice wood taste first with a mix of honey and herbs later on. Good balance of all the ingredients. Fine malt.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium finish with the rye coming through near the end.
