"It's a real stand-out, singular single malt. And it's primarily to do with the sheer assertiveness of the rye without the rye actually swamping the original spirit."
Sweet malt, popcorn, hot corn on the cob, lemon zest, a bit mineral, quite pungent alcohol, light pastry notes, with grassy to strawy notes
Mineral and strong, a blend of lime and vanilla, creamy and slightly alcoholic, quite dry and warm
Again grassy and strawy, but very pleasant, fits together somehow, neat oak and warmth, sweet malt sticks for a long time
- While a bit of an odd duck, I find it a very interesting concoction, and my favourite of the Glenallachie Wood Finish Series.
First impression is porridge with honey, accompanied by a touch of oak shavings, ripe banana, nutmeg and cinnamon. A tiny bit of fudge, and also a hint of sour beer.
The mouthfeel is a tad thin, yet somewhat oily. Fairly spicy. Think cloves and ginger, with a touch of cinnamon and black pepper. Some more oak shavings, and also a whiff of green banana.
Lingering spices. Broccoli. Finally a surprising touch of smoke.
