A big hitting, spicy, peated dram. Value (£60) : 6/10
    • Nose
Sweet citrus fruits with some caramel sweetness. Quite a hit of salinity to it. Peat is present but milder than expected, the peat definitely grows in intensity once left in the glass though. Drying oak spice. Freshly cracked black pepper tingles the nose. More mineral than earthy. I'm really enjoying the salty Seaspray of the nose.
    • Taste
Big on caramel and vanilla initially but then bittersweet tannins from the French oak overwhelm the palate. Punchy, ashy dry peat smoke. A little dark fruit and citric with some bitter dark chocolate. Drying oak tannins again and fresh cracked black pepper now.
    • Finish
Medium - short in length. initially its drying spice and then develops into ashtray-like smoke. Quite sweet but then an almost numbing chilli prickle comes through in waves.

Nose: seasoaked tarry rope with more subtle whiffs of baked sweets in the background. Slightest hint of vanilla.
Palate: opens bright and quickly evolves into a complex and smokey beast. Pipe tobacco. Lengthy finish.

After a disappointing experience with a poor batch of Uigeadail, I'm cautiously trying this.

I'll need to revisit the review after the bottle gets some more air, but for now it's a very one-dimensional whisky. Mix up smoke, butter and pine and you've got your Corryvreckan. It seems less hazardous than the poor Uigeadail I had previously, but it's nothing more than an ok peated whisky. 5/10 (considering I had the bottle for less than 60 € !)
