Sweet typical Ballechin smoke with smoked bacon association and a very nice fruity and sour berry note. The malt tolerates water, you can play with it well. I already liked the 10 year old in his own dirty way like a cowshed. I like this one very much. The smoky variant of the Edradour Newmake in connection with wine barrel aging is an exciting affair.
    • Nose
The malt lies in the glass with a rust-red color. A very oily film clings to the edge of the glass. The typical Ballechin smoke of wood and smoked bacon with this dirty hay and barn aroma shows up immediately at the beginning of the scent. The alcohol keeps flashing. Behind this aromatic smoke lie many sweet and ripe berries such as blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, but also sour notes of currants and red currants. Behind this strong fruit association, an almost perfume-like oak reveals itself, very lovely, as if you were smelling the flowers of the bushes whose berries you had tasted beforehand. The addition of water highlights the aromatic smoke significantly more from the spectrum of aromas. The other fragrances are now interwoven into a beautiful whole, the intense berry component takes a back seat and the flowery side increases.
    • Taste
Great! Very creamy, almost syrupy mouthfeel. And syrup is also the first thing that strikes me when it comes to taste. A honey-sweet smoke explosion that conjures up a lot of berries first and then a spiciness of ginger in your mouth. Then culinary herbs come to the fore. Slightly astringent from the alcohol. With a few drops of water dilution, the piquant note is reduced a little, but not too much. The sweetness and the berries are still present. And all the time you can taste the smoke in the background.
    • Finish
The peat and smoke last longer. The armons from the oak barrel are only discreetly present and show themselves as a pleasant bitter note. Traces of dried sage tea leaves are formative in the finish with the smoke in combination at the end. Overall, the finish can be described as long.

The nose starts with preserved fruits and meat broth, spontaneously reminds me of Springbank.

In the mouth and finish, the boiled down fruits take over and are gradually replaced by chocolatey oak and some dirty smoke.
    Length: 6/10

Great part, the alcohol is well integrated. Still, something is missing somehow.

    Note 1-

Full and fruity with great integrated smoke.
    • Nose
Sweet fermented grapes and berries, behind a smokehouse smoke. Notes of tree sap and maybe a little paprika.
    • Taste
Again, fruity, sweet berries. In addition, spicy-sweet oak.
    • Finish
Well balanced between fruit and smoke, distinct spiciness.

A few days later, it seemed a lot smokier to me
    • Nose
Slightly musty, blackberries, wood, honey, melon, pine needles, lemon, very artificial fruit yoghurt with red fruits, earth, wood, again no smoke
    • Taste
Apple, honey, lemon, lime, nuts, coffee, gets really dry and here too no signs of smoke ...

Exactly my thing! Strong smoke, active wine barrels, decent barrel strength.
    • Nose
Aromatic, warm smoke wafts out of the glass and brings sweet dark grapes with it. Gorgeous!
Sticky, sweet grapes wrapped in smoked bacon. Fine wine note
    • Taste
Creamy on the tongue. Strong start. A lot of aromatic smoke. Pleasantly sweet and juicy. Delicious dram!
    • Finish
Mild and long. The smoke stays sweet. The wine notes become a little drier very late.

Very nice malt, really (as for 10 yo) complex on the nose and balanced simple but very tasty palate. Wine influence can be recognized although those wine casks remind sherry maturation quite much. Sweetness hides smoky notes quite well but they appear mostly in aftertaste. The whisky is quite expensive as for 11 yo but I think it worth the price.
    • Nose
Sweet, winy, dark caramel, spices (cinnamon and cloves), dried fruits (prunes, cherries and dates), baked apples, juicy sweet oranges, green tea with milk, hints of smoke and oak. Water opens up grassy notes, honey and fruit caramel
    • Taste
Sweet, rather spicy (peppers and ginger), winter spicy cake, orange zest, red wine, roasted almonds, strawberry fudge, slightly astringent oak and sooty notes
    • Finish
Quite long, slightly ashy, sweet, nutty, strawberry jam, some leathery notes, very gentle oak at the end

One for the sweet tooth. Smoke and oak are hard on the sweetness to arrive. Purely too sweet for my taste. With water, the sweetness decreases a bit, and the smoke and oak come through better, then he likes me quite well.
    • Nose
Very sweet, with vanilla, caramel, cotton candy, popcorn, Turkish honey, candied apples, juicy pears, strawberry jam, fresh cherries, white chocolate. Daninzer is the smoke, but rather reserved, can not really prevail against the sweet. Also a slight silage lining note is there.
    • Taste
Strong start, silky mouthfeel. The sweet is immediately back in full. Cotton candy and white chocolate, the candied apples. Smoke and oak are getting stronger.
    • Finish
Medium. Still very cute. The oak makes itself a bit more noticeable, and brings some bittersweet. The smoke still supporting actor. White chocolate, pepper.
