This was a sample courtesy of peatbogger. Old Pulteney never let you down, they are always consistent. If you are a fan then this won't disappoint.
    • Nose
      84 84
Straight away those oak and vanilla notes. Fresh fruit as well as tinned fruit. Confectionery and flowers but not sure which. Ripe bananas, honey dew melon and lemon zest.
The nose is very light but give it time and it will show its colours.
    • Taste
      87 87
On first sip I thought it tasted stronger than 43%. Same with the second sip but that is okay, it is delightfully fruity with a pinch of spice.
This actually reminds me of Navigator in so many ways.
This settles really well on the third sip and goes down with ease.
    • Finish
      83 83
A medium fruity finish and the only flaw is the slight dryness on the death, you just want it to be sweet which is a shame but it's nitpicking on my part.

This is the new re-packaging of the 11YO 2006 Vintage, with another year of maturation.
Have not tried the old one so can not give a comparison there.
But quite different to the core 12YO.
Not as much tropical, and I find the order of things turned on their head.
An interesting and solid "under the radar" whisky at duty free shops.
    • Nose
      84 84
      Sweet, bright, fruity.
Pear, citrus, "roasted" honey, pinch of salt.
Underneath is a note of crushed greenery, herbs, a little mint, and what reminds me of basil.
    • Taste
      85 85
Un-chillfiltered at 46% it arrives quite oily and firm.
Strangely enough I get the green herbal notes first.
Then a build up of spice with growing presence of sweet orange citrus.
Nothing extreme about the spice build up, just a noticable rise to a pleasant warm mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      86 86
A little dry bitterness with sweet orange zest.
Some spice remains, but very gentle.
Hint of tanins at the very end of a medium lenght finish.

    • Nose
      85 85
Clean and relatively young, bourbon-matured. Lime, vanilla and bread dough. Getting creamier.
    • Taste
      83 83
Lime, vanilla, grapefruit skin, white bread and a light salty touch.
    • Finish
      81 81
Vanilla, green apple, malt and salt.

The nose is clearly the highlight of this bottling, if you can even speak of a highlight here. On the palate and in the finish it is more likely to be weaned - alcoholic and bitter. Nevertheless, one can be happy about this bottling, especially in comparison to the heavily diluted 12-year-old standard bottling, as the 46% drinking strength is a gain here.
    • Nose
      83 83
The aroma is fresh, maritime and has delicate citrus notes. The alcohol is easily noticeable.
Honey, limes, very delicate oak spices, green apples, lemon washing-up liquid, salty caramel, vanilla.
    • Taste
      79 79
Quite alcoholic for 46% drinking strength. Pear, strong tannins, citrus notes, dry grass, Galia melon, honey.
    • Finish
      78 78
Medium-long finish. What remains is mainly the bitterness with a slightly artificial lemon aroma.

This took some time to open up for me (it seemed a bit too ‘busy’). When it did however, it became a very potent dram. I would suggest leaving this open for a while to have the full experience.
    • Nose
      85 85
Creamy vanilla, toffee, honeydew melon, oranges, nutmeg, clove, artificial banana, some exotic fruits.
    • Taste
      85 85
Quite oak heavy, very slightly spicy but mostly vanilla sweet. Some green fruits like gooseberries and unripe banana, again nutmeg and clove, now with cinnamon.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium, honey, banana peel, burned vanilla, green tea, some milk chocolate.

Vanilla, salty caramel and dried pineapple. Clear notes of fresh wood (1fB). As always with Pulteney, an unmistakable maritime aroma. Pleasant volume thanks to the 46% ABV. A fair deal, a good opener. With a lot of time in the glass and not just as a starter or filler - a fair malt at a good price. Fits.

    • Nose
      81 81
Very light, but with a nice - typically Pulteney - seabreezy, lemony, minty freshness. Cider, pears... And already quite a bit of oak on the nose, but I wouldn't think this is all first-fill like its non-TR predecessors. The 46% don't show. Apart from the soft maritime note, rather bland, I'm afraid.
    • Taste
      77 77
Salty, sweet-and-sour attack, with a nicely thick, silky mouthfeel, but pretty nondescript from then on out. Keeps turning more and more toward a neutral boozy note - are we having white Tequila with lemon slices and salt?
Ungh, thanks, but no thanks. This went south pretty quickly.
    • Finish
      76 76
Now I can't shake this Tequila association... But it's pretty substandard either way. I would never have thought this was a "vintage", 12-year-old bottling - in a blind tasting, my guess would've been NAS.
