Whisky Reviews for Longmorn 2008 MBl

    Unfortunately can not convince.
Nose is very restrained and reminds me afar of a rum (Brugal Leyenda).
Actually artificially charged and unbalanced. Had expected more after the hype.

Nice material, if you like sweet things like me. If you take it more deeply, but the imbalance and the youth comes more to the fore. Therefore drink fast =)

He is not worth pinball prizes!

PX notes in abundance, sweet and sticky, raisins, sugar beet syrup, forest honey, the alcohol presses, balsamic cream, behind it are quite strong and adhesive bourbon notes through, after tasting still appears young wood with some resin
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet start with a lot of raisins, then comes through the alcohol, a lot of heat, but also again the adhesive note, neat oak flavor, while very impetuous and rather unbalanced
    • Finish
      84 84
Here dominates only the Bourbon adhesive, sweet raisins afterwards, the sugar beet syrup is also back, but it is also slightly bitter, the finish is rather short but definitely invites you to the next sip

Wow. Just like a young sherry cask whisky should be. Alcohol very well integrated. Lots of dark fruit and bitter chocolate.

This Longmorn had to grow on me. Initially I was not impressed. The dark color was not backed up by profile and flavor. It appeared like a brief sherry coating. Color sells after all. However, after a few separate occasions it became more interesting. Not as well-composed as other 10 year old sherried malts though. Don’t always follow the hype, not even with Meadowside Blending.

Dried fruit, jams, and savory sweetness. Liquid cake, cherry bubble gum, and new IKEA furniture – virgin oak?
    • Taste
      84 84
Tannic chocolate milk, dried fruit paste, and leafy eucalyptus. Caramelized watermelon, vanilla sugar, and baked apple.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium. Mildly tannic, vanilla-flavored red tea, and banana-chocolate icecream.

intense sherry, fermented fruit, moldy, leathery as well, the nose is incredible, reminds me rather of a rum than a Scotch single malt. on the palate there is too much roughness, to much bitterness, not really well balanced, there is still this enormous sherry influence but that is sadly all there is. finish is all right, Long Lasting and full of sherry sweetness. Interesting dram and I got it for a reasonable Price. All right, all good

The color in the glass suggests something else that you actually have in the glass. You are a long way from a sherry bomb. Only at the beginning in the nose, but the first time you smell it, the aromas become significantly lighter. In my opinion, water is good for him. The price of over € 150 is certainly not worth it to me. It is far from bad. On the contrary, it is delicious - just not worth the current price.

The color is dark, I would say nut or a very dark mahogany. But the barrels delivered in full. Little to little leg formation in the snifter, little oily. At the very beginning, a strong caramelized sherry note sloshes from the glass into the nose. Raisins with dark fruits. After some time in the glass and air, the sherry influence decreases and ripe red pears and apples are added, accompanied by berries such as blueberry or blackberry. Despite the 52.9%, there is no stinging of alcohol in the nose.
With the addition of water, it becomes surprisingly light-fruity, as the sherry flavors are pretty much completely lost. You think you have a malt from a bourbon barrel in front of you. The apple and the pear become lighter, no longer red, but rather only yellow. It also becomes slightly sour. Not bad, but with the color in the glass !?
    • Taste
      87 87
First sip without water. Very sweet in the mouth, caramel. But less fruit than expected. Slight tingling on the tongue. The flow of saliva starts immediately, becoming slightly dry at the front of the lower lip.
With water, the taste becomes significantly rounder and better. Still sweet, but now also fruity and round.
    • Finish
      87 87
The malt gets nutmeg and cinnamon towards the finish. In the end some oak, but few bitter substances. The end also wins through water. The spices become softer, the oak is now presented with cocoa.
