Very fruity in the beginning. Think of notes like plums, raisins and strawberryjam. But also citrussy notes like oranges and mandarins. Now some sweet notes like caramel, toffees and butterscotch. But also praline and milky chocolate. And at the end a note of honey.
    • Taste
      89 89
On the palate it starts fruity like oranges, mandarins and a little hint of grapefruit. Some sweet layered fruits like applecrumble and chocolate raisins. There's a lovely note of hazelnuts now with some nutmeg. Some more sweet notes like honey, caramel and praline. At the end notes of ginger and driftwood.
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium-long to long! With lovely notes like fudge, strawberries, plums and chocolate and also a bit of ginger.

    Puhh... tough one!

The 10 years are nowhere to be found!
    3-year Port-finish??? ... i wonder about those casks.
    Smell and taste... politely: underwhelming.
    Price... an impertinence!

For what this forgettable bottling actually is, in my opninion, Glendronach should pay everybody who suffers through a bottle of this.

    NOT RECOMMENDED!
    • Nose
      71 71
restrained, thin, weak, already slightly sharp
    • Taste
      70 70
underwhelming, thin, spicy, not enough (port-) fruits or sweetness, turning sharp
    • Finish
      70 70
      short, spicy, sharp

Pretty solid standard with decent drinking strength. However, youth gives him a restless and slightly unround character. After the nose immediately disappointed me, I was glad that it had a little more to offer on the palate. However, I think the issue price is quite ambitious.
    • Nose
      82 82
Slightly out of round at the beginning and also quite sharp on the nose. First fermented apples. This note morphs into applesauce a few minutes later with a squeeze of lemon. There is also some vanillin, aniseed, aloe vera cream, freshly cut twigs, withered leaves, nutmeg.
    • Taste
      84 84
Slightly oily body, which also brings some heat here. Applesauce again, lemon, caramel, blackberries and black currants, tobacco, herbal tea with devil's claw.
    • Finish
      83 83
Short to medium long finish. Slightly dry. Quinces, apples, toast.

  7. MrDvorak scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

The wine aroma is dominated by black currants, marzipans with prunes in chocolate. The taste is sweet, slightly tannic with nuances of black berries, tobacco leaf and chocolate. The finish is creamy, sweetish, berry-woody.

Perfectly balanced port Glendronac, distinct berry undertone, good barrel work, cute.

    RATING: 86pts - | 83 - 86 (B) → Good | - Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.

At first glance, this malt is a real "fruit bomb", but on the tongue it develops into a real Christmas malt that can be enjoyed very well by the fireplace during the cold season. Very interesting and tasty!

    • Nose
Nice wine notes with a luscious cocktail of ripe, red fruits like cherries and strawberries, as well as dried fruits like raisins and prunes. There is also a hint of citrus fruits. The character is very sweet, with a slightly spicy undertone. Blossom honey and light floral notes emerge. Sour cherries and well-embedded oak notes complete the aroma. The heaviness of the port wine subsides a little after a while and the overall impression becomes more balanced and elegant.
    • Taste
Not as intense as in the nose, but still very pleasant and soft. Berries, cherries and citrus fruits are there immediately, dried fruits are at best to be guessed. After a few seconds, the mouthfeel becomes significantly spicier and slightly bitter with (Christmas) biscuits and chocolate. Then there is definitely marzipan, which reminds me of Salzburger Mozartkugeln in this combination.
    • Finish
The sweet fruits recede a little, but without completely fading. The finish is very pleasant and relatively long with a dominant mix of marzipan and dark chocolate, as well as some oak.

    • Finish

    Quick hit review.

I have a soft spot for Port, especially Colheita, so this GlenDronach is right down my alley. On the nose, raspberries, marzipan and oak spices cannot disguise the youthfulness of this malt. Dark fruits, nutmeg and some herbal notes dominate the mildly dry palate. The Port shines through nicely. Strawberries, orange peel and cinnamon fade in the slightly bitter finish. Not a stunner, but definitely worth trying.

  19. The_Independent scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

This bottling differs with its Portwood profile from the usual Glendronach bottlings. I created the notes based on the last dram of a large bottle that was now open for around 9 months. This time did not harm him, perhaps quite the opposite.
    • Nose
      88 88
Spicy sweetness, black cherry jam, port wine, a little musty, sandalwood, oak, behind it Mediterranean herbs, a little lavender soap and citrus zest. Alcohol is quite well integrated for the rather young age.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sweet, strong onset, the alcohol is a bit rough, almost spicy, strong chocolate with sour cherry, moist oak, very spicy and increasingly bitter.
    • Finish
      88 88
Creamy, medium to long, lots of chocolate, a little coffee, sour cherry, then drying - baking cocoa.

Less sweet than expected, the influence of port wine goes well with distillate, age and alcohol strength. A summer whisky for me

I usually rate bottles pretty quick after opening.
This was opened and just enjoyed in company.
Having another dram now, really enjoying it, I realise I have not made notes or rated it.
This is so different than the usual sherried Glendronach, still or maybe because of that, I find it an excellent dram.
    • Nose
      87 87
      Rounded not excessive sweetness.
      Some almond nuttyness, light chocolate.
I can't distinguish any spesific citric notes, but the berry mix has got a sour/zesty edge.
Nice wineous touch along with something herbal and organic.
Nothing sticking out, everything nicely ballanced, and very moderate alc on the nose.
    • Taste
      89 89
Arrives with a good richness and warmth that quickly coates the mouth.
      Again modest sweetness.
Chocolate covered marzipan with some blackcurrant filling.
Very enjoyable and well executed sherry alternative.
    • Finish
      91 91
Just about perfect level of spice.
Close to long lasting with all so gentle dryness.
Really lip smacking chocolate and creamy fudge notes that makes me just want to reach out for another sip.

I haven't had much Port finish whiskies, in fact the last one I had was the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. This is better, I think the finish and the Alc vol are spot on. Thanks to Peatbogger for the sample, I will definitely look out for this.
    • Nose
      89 89
Dark chocolate immediately comes to mind. Plums or tinned prunes. Crunchie bar which was cinder toffee covered in chocolate. Red wine, dry thick tree bark and wet fallen leaves. Blackberries, rum and toffee apple.
    • Taste
      90 90
This is really nice and tasty. Those chocolate notes transfer nicely onto the palate. It is almost has a coco feel to it. The 46% is just about on the money. Lots of spice to go with it. This is the kind of dram you could have whilst reading a book in bed.
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium to long finish. It's like chewing on a liquorice pipe followed by more chewing on tobacco. That dark thin healthy chocolate was the first to arrive at the party and the last to leave.

finish 7 years bourbon, 3 years in port:
woody, spicy and fruity, on a sweet sherry (pears, peaches cooked and macerated), vanilla
on the palate, the sweet side comes out again, with more vanilla, caramel, fresher fruits (not candied!), rather dry wood, a little leather and dark chocolate and sweet, feeling that prolongs with fruity scents.
the length is monolithic there, but long enough

bright, very sugary, memorable wine monster, not quite clear and a little bit spiny.
    84 (n22, t20, f21, b21)
    • Nose
intense, winy, feel prunes, raisins, currants, dogwood, a little dusty twigs, toffee, chocolate cream and oak bark.
    • Taste
cherry jam, figs, prunes, stringy toffee, dark chocolate, tannins.
    • Finish
medium duration, astringent, slightly prickly, with hints of cherry jam, dogwood, toffee, with a high content of oak tones.

  28. maltaholic scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

A wonderfully sweet fragrance fills the nearby environment.
I can already smell the barrel notes from afar.
Do not even dare to move closer ...

He gets a little bit sharper as soon as you put your nose in the glass,
    exudes his young alcohol.
A wine note, sweet wood, grapes.

In the mouth quite strong, rather spicy.
The cask notes are a bit bitter, not completely pure.

    Great aroma.
    Not convincing in taste.
For an initial 52,90 € ok,
for the current 75 € not more ...

  29. 11insomnium scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Much more aromatic and complex in the nose than in the mouth. Develops after some time in the glass very beautiful floral notes. Here again shows that the keg is more crucial than the age.
    • Nose
Fruit jam, slightly floral with citrus freshness, sweet, some beeswax, later very aromatic
    • Taste
Spicy, fruity and sweet, slight alcoholic sharpness
    • Finish
Slightly dry and slightly bitter, spicy with fruit
