A mix of sweetness and darkness

Nose: Rich and complex. Takes a while to open up. Walnuts and jam, dried apricots, English breakfast tea and brown sugar well combined with deep sherry aromas.

Palate: Sweet, spicy and a bit of darkness, showing notes of dark fruits and salted caramel. Not the typical Arran house style but defiantly a unique dram!!

Finish: Medium, full of dark chocolate, bitter orange and caramel.

  2. Thermidor scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

The Arran single casks I've tasted have all been better than the regular OBs I've tasted, but I do have to say the ones with a heavier sherry touch do lose some of the distillery character, apart from the caramel note.
Tasted with Glendronach 18yo OB (87 pts.) and Aberlour A'Bunadh batch 60 (85).
    • Nose
The first impression is a piece of yeast dissolving in water, then some savoury note, waxed fruit, and a wisp of ethanol noting its high strength. Then some pretty sherry oak and some blackpepper come through. A little bit of water makes the savouriness that of a meat pastry, while bringing up some sweet milk chocolate and caramel: a Japp chocolate bar.
    • Taste
Despite the pinch of ethanol on the nose, this is not at all sharp neat. The body is even and enjoyable, medium weight. Sherry oak, gingerbread, some fruitiness, and a bit of cardboard. With water: chocolate, malts, faint cloves, and some shortbread.
    • Finish
(Plum?) jelly, cinnamon, something metallic in the back.
