Whisky Reviews for Longmorn 1973 HB
5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 91.42 points
- Simply one of the best whisky's I've ever enjoyed. This is just amazing stuff, all in perfect balance, no flaws and what a fantastic finish! Everyone that has a bottle closed for investment reasons; fuck it, just open the bottle and enjoy. You will remember this one forever.....
Syrupy and fruity, more red and black fruits, tropical fruits are here but played a side role. Some oaky flavors often find in the port wood. A touch of flints and rubber but add the complexity. Huge leather and chocolates.
Bitter coffee, lots of fruits, very jammy, blueberries and cherries, still some tropical fruits, such as stewed papaya. Lots of camphor as well.
Long bitter finish, cigar leaves, and chocolates, coconut oil, and soy sauce.
- Nose: Dark chocolate, Soy sauce, Balsamic vinegar, the nose is rich and so much going on, liquorice root, expresso and leather. Cola cubes and dark plum skins, Black olives.
Palate: A very juicy and dark fruits on the first impressions on the palate, sherried fruits stewing in their juices a hit of oak comes through, dark soya sauce, those dark wine gums sweets and it keeps going. Lovely whisky, wish I had more of this, Slainte!
Tasted at the Old & Rare Whisky Show 2021 in the Longmorn Masterclass, (Dram No. 6 of 6)
- Amazing dialogue of sweetness in the beginning and mature barrel aromas on the palate and aftertaste. Like a double espresso with a lot of sugar. Smooth mouthfeel. The Port appears very long after the sip has gone.
- [April, 2000] I had this dram during a "Taste the difference" tasting at Rolandsbogen.
In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 92,5 points. My notes state a very intense and complex nose with a sound wooden structure. It improves further with water on the palate. This was my first fully port cask matured whisky and I liked it very much.
By the way, this is not a port finish - the whisky matured in the port cask for 25 long years.
