A fabulous winey Bunnahabhain with a fantastic influence of a Sauternes Finish.
    • Nose
I smell a lot of dark fruits, wine, raisins, honey, propolis, white grapes, plenty of dried plums, dried apples. I also smell notes of cream and nuts.
    • Taste
      Winey, sweet, more wine, cinnamon
    • Finish
The finish is also winey, slightly oaky, but has a lot of dried raisins.

What a bottle! This is by far the best Sauternes Cask Finished Scotch Whisky I’ve tried so far. It’s probably due to the “finish” being a solid 5 years(!) in Sauternes Hogsheads, but there was a real, legit Sauternes sweet wine influence without dominating the dram. It evoked the delicious delicate sweetness I had with my last sip of a Château d'Yquem Sauternes pour, but obviously not as pronounced.

Mix in Bunnahabhain’s signature coastal salinity, imparting this salty-sweet, salted toffee note as well, and you have a winner. Just a fun, delicious dram, with plenty of forest, leafy, dusty backnotes to round things out. I hope Bunnahabhain releases more Sauternes cask bottles of this quality (or better) in the future.

Sauternes sweetness. Pleasant. Zero ABV burn. Rich plum pudding. Ripe, sweet orchard fruits dessert. Peaches, just baked peach cobbler, apricots, honey. Coastal salinity, salted toffee.
    • Taste
      89 89
Medium thick viscosity. Salted toffee, the salty-sweet notes work wonderfully here. Fig pudding. Balanced ginger spice, this wonderful dusty dunnage. Coastal sea spray. Old wood washed ashore. Ripe apricots, delicate peaches. Rich, stewed plums. Bold Koshu (the rich, vibrant, aged Japanese Sake).
    • Finish
      88 88
Long finish. Fading ginger spice, dusty dunnage, leafiness, forest floor, earthiness. More salted toffee, salty-sweet notes. Orchard fruits in the background.

Incredible and deep notes of vine, chocolate, tropical fruits (like mango and citruses) and spices, vanilla, jam, summer field flowers, clove, light elements of nutmeg, malt and hazelnut.

Powerful bunna. Good job. Reminiscent of the profile of the warehouse edition, but longer sustained and smoothed sharp corners before aging in Sauternes. 22.5-23-23-22.5

A noble, unusual bunna, while the best of what he drank. Balanced, whole, very consistent whisky, feels significantly older than its real age
    • Nose
      91 91
Charcoal smoked prunes with raisins, vanilla, honey, dried apricots and apricots, a little sea salt and cigar tobacco. Fresh, full, but only in moderation
    • Taste
      91 91
walnuts in wine, a little pepper with lemon, old oak, grapefruit, noble dryish, it feels much older than its age
    • Finish
      90 90
Dry sherry, nuts, a little cinnamon and old oak and tobacco, long enough, but calm and even

Smell Nose: Still keeping the coolness of metal and rust spots as the base, the sweetness of ripe fruits is significant and dominant, and the slightly moist big talk of plum, cola sugar, nectarine, marmalade from strong to weak (all I love to eat!), Finally some roasted fruit trees, apple pie.

Taste Palate: Moderate dryness and bitterness even one more, walnuts, lemongrass, star anise, white pepper, fennel liqueur, dried flowers, tea foam, weak rust and licorice at the end.

After rhyme Finish: medium long but not strong, white pepper, frozen meat, nectarine juice, sour apple sauce.

Body: Medium-bodied body with oil, strong strength, strong wine strength, excellent balance, and easy to drink.

    Deep brown. Gorgeous!

Very much fruit in the nose.
    But also oak.
He smells older than he is.
    Moist leather, grapes, berries.

    An explosion in the mouth.
    Powerful, fruity, strong, sweet.
The wood also has a bitterness.
    There's liquorice, ripe, fermented fruit.
    Furry, musty.
    And then again creamy, caramel.
    There goes back and forth.

    A very interesting malt.
    Very well!

Beautiful and distinctive complex nose, but continuously degrades over all three phases. A nice but limited whisky. I prefer to eat a nice Sauternes, a Chateaux d'Yquem.

  26. spigray scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

Could not make proper notes as I only tasted it in the distillery shop but I was absolutely fascinated by this whisky. great viscosity, sweet, a real feeling of sauternes, honey, apricots, vanilla. Great stuff!

  27. Ivynor scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

A superb Bunna, although much too expensive and for the richest. Too bad because the quality is really there.
    • Nose
      91 91
Nose balanced, powerful, well peated and greedy, with pastry notes (cooked cake, melted prune). The whole is quite spicy, with also hints of heather and yellow fruits.
    • Taste
      92 92
Excellent mouth, very greedy, on the cake baked out of the oven, the fat peat dark chocolate, plum mirabelle, quetsches. More peppery finish
    • Finish
      90 90
Finale endless, spicy and greedy, on stewed fruits, dark chocolate, candied orange. A vegetal and woody point, drier, prevents to go further.

  28. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

One of the best Sauternes ripenings I've ever tried.
    • Nose
as expected sweet, honey, vanilla, ripe sweet mirabelle plums, a light nut note in the background, macadamia, melted white chocolate, in the background a light maritime note comes through, he is totally supple
    • Taste
very sweet and creamy, ganache, honey, vanilla, light acidity of the mirabelles, then comes an intense interlude with nuts and light roasted aromas, some salt tickles the tongue, need no water
    • Finish
Haselnusseis, really as if you had just licked it, even from the mouth feeling, creamier it is not
