    Blind tasting:

Scent: whisky for glue sniffers, delicate, perfumed sweet, light flowers, but especially a lot of vinegar - downright unpleasant

Taste: very fruity, sweet chemical wine, redband candies, sulfur and sour notes that dominate everything
Second tasting: better, more honey, tropical fruit, powdered sugar

Finish: vinegar, alcohol and winegums again. Not my whisky.

Unfortunately a bit too young and alcoholic.
Certainly better with a slightly longer maturation period.

      Fruity, malty, young, alcohol.
With water it looks a bit older and rounder. The fruits become a little duller and sweeter. Water definitely helps.
Very light notes of dark chocolate mixed with honey. Strawberry and raspberry can also be smelled.

The alcohol comes through. Youth can be felt. Otherwise very fruity without oak. The port can be clearly felt. Very oily in the mouth.
Here it remains a little too alcoholic and young even with water.
The fruits also become a little sweeter in the mouth and a light honey note comes through.
      Also a barrel wort.

Medium length and relatively meaningless. A fruity note of raisins remains. A little spices and herbs will be added later.

found the nose in particular very enchanting, while palate lacking some development and depth. This might have something to do with the age and shortness of the finish. However, I find it shows another side of Glenrothes, beside the many sherry-heavy bottlings, since it articulates the fruity side of the distillery’s character.

Switching between tropical fruit juice and golden raisin cake. Pleasant and well balanced, despite the high strength. After a few minutes more balance. Sweet white wine, Spanish style rum and golden raisin juice (?). Also strong scent of liquorice root. Time suits this whisky and brings better coherence and more depth. Some cherry liquor, raspberry sweets and a drop of limoncello. The liquorice note is really persistent and challenges the domination of the fruits. Some water brings more cake, freshly pressed oranges, grapefruit, sweet cherries and grenadine lemonade. More and more fruits are arising.

      87 87
Big alcohol kick followed by astringent oranges and grape seeds. There is a slightly herbal site behind this with mint, rosemary and dill. With water, more tropical juice, grenadine lemonade and bigarreaux. Pleasant aftertaste where fruit liquorice gums are the main player.

Ugh to much alcohol. Give it a lot of time to open up. Balances out quite nicely.

It needs a lot of time and water to open up and to go to its full potential.

Sweet, vanilla, wine barrel, cinnamon, grassy, apples, lemon, there is a bit of dirt On the one hand the bourbon barrel on the other side the influence of the port barrel. But the barrel does not release a lot of red fruit. A little bit of chocolate. After a while more marzipan and some wax. With water, the port comes out a bit more with dry raisins and a bit herbal now.
    • Taste
      82 82
Sweet, and then immediately cream/wax, high alcohol, some red fruit, but alcohol has the upper hand. With water raisins, cinnamon, port barral extract.
    • Finish
      83 83
Sweet and sour, cinnamon, that dirt comes out more, ends a bit drier. With some water its much sweeter and a lot less dry, also more of the port cask shines true.

This dram really has two faces due to the finish.

Apple, tea, vanilla sugar, banana, nutmeg, pastry and white pepper. Water releases lemon zest and an oakiness.
    • Taste
      85 85
Gently creamy. Cherry and caramel. Apple. Still rather young and peppery though.
    • Finish
      86 86
      More creamy.

  8. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

a solid malt that I liked
couldn't "find" much (due to age?) but the overall picture was nice
such an easy drinking dram but too expensive for that
    • Nose
sweet, fruity, dark notes from the port and they get stronger, something like fermented grapes

with water: cherries, honey (acacia?), green herbs
    • Taste
full and powerful; the alcohol tingles somewhat
      red berries, spicy

with water: dark caramel, spicy, softer
    • Finish
      medium to long
      light oak, fruity, tart

      with water: coffee
