Oldschool whisky that shows its age and is really fun.

Nice light color. Light smoke, fruit (citrus), honey, menthol, cough drops, the alcohol is super integrated.

More fruity with water, even more citrus fruits, plus some apple and honeydew melon

Nice strength, light smoke, some oak, honey, malt, a little pepper. The whole thing looks fresh and at the same time slightly dusty. Great.

Much more open, rounder and fruity with water. Really good. Again citrus fruits, some melon and apple.

Medium-long finish, oak spice and salt.

[Without water] Typical Ardmore: dry, herbal, leathery, with petrichor, wet soil, and arboreal aromas like autumnal forest floor and decomposing leaves. Honey, apricot, lemon. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and does not bite or bother the nose at all. A bit unspectacular, perhaps, but very alluring and well-balanced.

[With water] Yum: gets really creamy now, and much sweeter, with the peat becoming more fragrant and complex. Adding a few drops is definitely recommended. The added mellowness and refinement make it much more elegant and subtle than it initially appeared. Really has some depth to it.

[Without water] Dry, peppery / spicy and earthy, but with some lovely fruity acidity and enough honeyed, malty sweetness to balance it out. Gets really nice in the last third, when the spices intensify into a roast coffee aroma and combine with the fruits (I'd say grape and peach), which peak at the same time.

[With water] Sweeter, more round and mild, with less peppery sharpness and generally a longer flavor development. It now lacks the pronounced fruit+spice spike at the end, so you may find it less intense and impressive with water, but since the finish also gains a bit by dilution, I prefer it this way.
    • Finish
      87 87
Spicy oak, grated ginger, espresso, distant farmyard and more overt autumnal forest aromas.
