Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne 2005 HB
9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.04 points
- Strong molt. Maybe because of this degree it is difficult to reveal in the aroma. 21.5-22-22-21.5
- The aroma is closed. It is necessary to pour 15-20 ml and let it stand for 20 minutes. Too alcoholic ...
The taste and finish are pleasant and warm.
Through my buddy Manny I got an open bottle of this sherry matured Glengoyne. There is still more than a quarter of the contents in there. Perhaps he did not like it much? This single cask was bottled by the Hart Brothers exclusively for the lovers of malt in Switzerland.
The nose is pretty dirty on walnuts, wilted flowers and make-up. You read that right. Then some apples in a frying pan and some chicken broth. It’s a combination that does not work. This is absolutely not my thing on the nose. Pity.
Oily on the palate, but immediately sweet and sour – more sour than sweet, to be honest. Lots of pepper, by the way. The sweet malt is completely overpowered by sour notes that are hard to pinpoint. Sour mats candy comes close, with a bitter note of grape pith and tannins. Some blood oranges and honey try to save the day, but fail to make me altogether happy.
Only the finish is somewhat pleasant, on pepper, sultanas, raisins and honey. The off-notes that I had on both the nose and the palate are mercifully absent here.
Thanks for this bottle, Manny, but I suspect you did not like it much either.
- The choice of the cask could’ve been done more meticulously.
Glass blenders/The Perfect Measure
N 21 sherried/perfumed/wilted flowers/walnut oil, walnut peel. Strong. Even after spending over 20 minutes breathing
T 19 terribly acidic, nail polish remover, malt sweetness fails to balance it, walnut bitter, marzipan with a spicy bite
F 23 long warming, almonds, wood staves, sherried, chocolate
- In the nose a bit light and thin, but in body and finish it gets full and strong. Fruity and some spicy and sweet notes.
Fruity, red fruit, ripe apples. Also some caramel, but not a very rich nose.
Strong, pepper, spicy. Fruity, orange, honey, creamy structure. Intense mouthfeel.
Still pretty strong, pickering, some sultana's, raisins, honey, spicy. Intense, pretty long.
