What am I glad to have bought, opened and shared this redbreast? It would be a pity to just keep on being knacked down for a multiple to beautify any collector's display case. This whiskey must be drunk!
A great single cask, which is very sympathetic that the distillery points out that it is not an original single cask, but it is the marriage of whiskey from four different barrels. And there is nothing to complain about the barrel selection. On the contrary.

Right from the start, you'll be greeted by the unmistakable Redbreast single-pot-still spice mix, whose composition varies a little from bottling to bottling, but can always be identified as such in its entirety. Here are nutmeg, coriander, cinnamon, marjoram and chervil, along with mild liquorice and creme brulée. Brown cane sugar, sugar beet syrup, acacia honey. On fruits does not save the nose with raisins and dried dates. The combination of the dried fruits with the spices and some wood makes the nose "thick" and saturated.

Strong impact of raisins in sherry. Mild spice that lays on the tongue and envelops it. Although strong in the start, but only warming and silky soft. Only slightly dry. Toffee, nougat chocolate, coffee beans. Some licorice. On the tongue, the spices are less separable than in the nose. However, they are present and form a good contrast to the sweet raisins. So "thick" he smelled, so viscous he is on the tongue. No whiskey, which intends to recommend in French, but a (welcome) guest with Sitzfleisch and staying power. Soft caramel, vanilla. Will not dry up after a while. Very balanced.
    • Finish

Long finish with raisins and dried dates, licorice, nutmeg, pepper, coriander, coffee grounds, toffee, dark chocolate, grated almonds. Slightly dry.

Cask 1: A Single Pot Still whiskey that was distilled in 1998, matured in ex-Bourbon barrels before being recasked into a Pedro Ximénez sherry butt in 2012.

Cask 2: This cask held a Single Pot Still whiskey that was matured in 1995, which spent the first 17 years of its life in ex-Bourbon barrels before being re-casked into Oloroso sherry in 2012.

Cask 3: This Single Pot Still whiskey is the oldest in the vatting. It was distilled in 1985 and was wholly matured in second fill ex-Bourbon.

Cask 4: Cask 4 took its cask inspiration from its older brother in Cask 3. This Single Pot Still whiskey was distilled in 1997 and was also wholly matured in second fill ex-Bourbon.

All four casks were then vatted and subsequently married in a Pedro Ximénez sherry butt for finishing.

Has me as you see at the points much less promised than the 32y, he seems in my opinion, even younger than other 20y Irish, who are not single Cask, I found the nose quite own. Overall but still a very tasty barrel.
