Whisky Reviews for Benrinnes 2004 vW

- Ooh, this one is sweet. On the nose a big malty core with a basket of fresh fruit like apple, pear, fig, cherry, coconut and orange peel. Then it just oozes sweetness with lots of custard, caramel popcorn, straciatella ice cream and icing sugar. Some notes of lavender, vanilla, honey, beef, balsamic and pencil shaving too. The Benrinnes effect is clearly noticeable.
In the mouth a bit astringent but powerful. The flavours manage to keep it in balance fortunately. More fruity than the nose with apple cider, pear, blood orange, mango and grapefruit. Again a huge sweetness with custard, licorice, salted caramel, pastry and almond. Then some pepper, lavender and a little smoke that is hiding in the background.
Finish is quite long! Dry, malty and sweet with caramel, salt and pepper.
A proper matured Benrinnes with a lot of character. It's a little jumpy and spirit driven but still interesting enough.
Based on a sample.
- A lot of fruitiness, nice and strong, very decent and pleasant whisky.
Fruity, very ripe apples, some overripe banana as well. Raisins, spicy.
Strong, pepper, alcohol pretty prominent, sweet, honey, some peach, caramel and vanilla, full body, some licorice.
Still pretty strong, pepper. Licorice, some peach, ripe apples, wood influence, tooth picks. Middle long finish.
