Very balanced. Neither fruit nor barrel, nor too tart. Yes, it's fun, but you have to stroke, chew and ventilate here. No table fireworks, rather something for people with patience and devotion.
    • Nose
      90 90
Fruity, grapes, some gooseberry, green apple. The apple dominates the fruit notes. Heather, honey, freshly felled wood, tree sap that escapes. Croissants, butter pastries. In fact, rum raisins and some hidden citrus fruits too.
    • Taste
      89 89
Tingles. After prolonged chewing, it slides into a ginger phase before it becomes creamy. After the turbulence you will be rewarded with a nice fruit. Rather tropical here. Passion fruit, again raisins and apple. Pastries with cinnamon and a little clove. Creamy creamy, bee sting.
    • Finish
      88 88
Central aisle. Milk coffee, slightly tart, dry. Complements the nose and palate well, so that all flavors are served.

beautiful bourbon barrel aged malt. It takes time and has a very soft profile. Delicious.
    • Nose
Citrus notes, nuts, beautiful fruity notes which go in a tropical direction. Very soft and fresh. Later a little vanilla and caramel. Nice rather delicate wood notes. Some chocolate in the background
    • Taste
lots of citrus fruits, nice wood notes, a bit sweet with vanilla and honey, tropical fruits, then becoming oily.
    • Finish
sweet, soft finish with chocolate, vanilla and tropical fruits, nuts, then the woody notes and it becomes a bit bitter

A good malt from the bourbon barrel. But doesn't necessarily have to have a bottle of it now. But it was nice to have tried it.
    • Nose
Relatively fresh. Herbal tea with lemon. Candied citrus. Meadow fruit. With a little hand warmth and oxygen also some exotic fruits. Young but already dry wood. Hinted at a little nutmeg.
    • Taste
Pleasant mouthfeel. Sweetness followed by seasoning. But could be a little more intense. Flowerhoney. Bit of lychee. A little ginger. And sparkling wood tones.
    • Finish
The fruits fade away and the oak takes over. A little acid comes up and combines with subtle bitterness.

Wow, that's what a good bourbon barrel must taste like, totally delicious, fruity without end, very creamy, great
    • Nose
A basket full of exotic fruits blows towards you, sour, also citrus, reminds me somehow of a fresh candy, almost like ice cream candy, over the whole there is a subtle sweetness, a bit of Hubba Bubba apple, a very distinctive nose, very exciting and pleasant
    • Taste
very creamy, again the fruit basket, passion fruit, mango, exotic fruits, at the beginning grapefruit flashes through briefly, but sugared, light sweetness, quite delicate and not very bulky, but a nice mouthfeel
    • Finish
here it gets fresher again, the ice cream returns from the nose, the fruits become ever brighter, light acidity, a fresh mouthfeel lasts a long time, very light vanilla on the palate

After the Glen Garioch 24y of the The Maltman series recently excited me so much, I'm looking forward to another The Maltman bottling. This time it is a 26 year old secret speech from the bourbon barrel.

The whisky shimmers golden in the glass. The first thing I can hear on the nose are bright, fresh fruits combined with a spiciness: citrus fruits with zest from lime and orange peel, juicy peaches, tropical fruits such as pineapple, papaya and a somewhat unripe mango. All fruits lie on a sweet, sticky-moist cake batter, which with its vanilla aroma accompanies the fruitiness. The spiciness consists of a hint of candied ginger and a little pepper and complements the fruity sweetness. Light tannins on tap with a subtle wood note of not too old furniture (so not grandmother's old oak chest of drawers in the attic!) Are the last components of the variety of flavors. Above all there is a sourness that is a little too penetrative for me.

In the mouth initially with a stronger attack than I would have expected for an alcohol content of 46.7%. I have the tropical fruits that were also found in the aroma. The pineapple is much stronger in the mouth than in the nose, peaches are added, citrus fruits provide a sour freshness, then the spiciness takes over command with pepper and the wood from the bourbon barrel. There is a bit of bittersweet chocolate on the palate, played by subtle vanilla from the cake batter.

The tannins are now clearly noticeable in the finish. 26 years in the barrel are noticeable and that's okay. The fruitiness reminds a little of the mouthfeel after eating Tropifruttis. I would rate the finish as a maximum of medium length. I lack complexity at the exit.

Overall, it is a fruity whisky, which you can also enjoy on warmer summer evenings. For me, the Secret Speyside 26y from the The Maltman series is a good whisky from an ex-bourbon barrel, but without causing any real storms of enthusiasm.

I give it 87/100 points. A whisky, of which I would like to have a dram in the glass again, but would not buy a bottle.

Fresh. Grated lemon zest, nut cake with frosting. Glazed ginger. Removes pineapple and passion fruit. Dusty light wood, a hint of beeswax.
    • Taste
Sweet, spicy, slightly oily. Honey, white chocolate, vanilla, passion fruit. Almonds, marzipan. A trace of wax. Walnut, cocoa powder.

Tropical fruits meet on caramel in the nose. Nice creamy in the mouth, the tropical fruits are also back. His age is noticeable in his mouth and finish, by a strong woody spice. He can be very well drink even at the currently very warm temperatures outside.

Nose: vanielle, butterscotch, pineapple, cake dough, caramelised grated coconut. Smells generally very sweet and the alcohol is very well integrated.

Palate: Papaya, pineapple, coconut and a hint of oak ... alcohol is more noticeable than in the smell but not disturbing. Salivation is stimulated.

Finish: Beautiful tropical fruit salad. The 26 years you can feel in the finish.
The finish is medium - long.

Conclusion: A very beautiful, round / balanced malt.
