    Tasting Notes by producer;

    Two ex-bourbon barrels of peated malt from Bunnahabhain were used for this whisky, distilled in 2004 and aged for over 15 years. This is a straightforward, but not simplistic, dram – full of bucolic peat and citrus fruit. Only 734 bottles produced.

    Cask details;
    Peated distillate from 2004 aged in two ex-bourbon barrels.

    Tasting Notes;

    Marmalade on burnt toast, buttered crumpets, grilled banana and pineapple. The smoke is earthy, mellow and inviting like a summer barbeque.

    Creamy with burnt orange peel and macadamia nuts. A rollercoaster of robust peat that builds and then descends, accompanied by sumptuous fruit flavours: gooseberry, honeydew melon and a salt-rimmed margarita.

    Fresher and slightly green; pine, vanilla, concentrated apple juice.

    This is a very good whisky.
    • Nose
      Soft smoke, mild ash, dark honey, caramelized fruit. Rich, buttery, and complex.
    • Taste
      Sweet buttery peat, dark honey, spice, nuts, yellow fruits, mild citrus. Creamy palate with complex honey and mild peat notes.
    • Finish
      Long, with billowing sweet peat, mild spice, and honey undertones.

    A peated Bunnahabhain with a different name and a respectable age. With the tobacco notes I can see the Bowmore resemblance, which is a great thing for me. Somehow feels a younger than the stated age, but not lacking in any regards.
    • Nose
      Grapefruits, vanilla, some honey, grilled pineapples, earthy peat, tobacco leaves
    • Taste
      Stonefruits, oranges, burnt sugar, oily texture, tar, earthy peat smoke, black peppers
    • Finish
      Burnt ends, earthy, tobacco leaves, quite long, slightly coastal, peppers

    One for Bowmore fans, you could say. I liked it, too. For a decent peater with real edges, it was still surprisingly drinkable! This is also great fun for nosing enthusiasts when it has opened up a little. Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/10/21/ziemlich-vertikaler-bunnahabhain/

      A bit towards the young peat whisky, but nicely balanced. There is a little sweat, but also a lot of sweets, milk chocolate, tobacco, a lot of peat smoke, some seaweed, sea and a little salty.
    • Taste
      88 88
      Alcohol well masked, less sweat, more peat, tar and fire smoke; oily. Perceptible salt, sea water. Some apples. Pretty classic Bunnahabhain.
    • Finish
      84 84
      Pretty long. Of course, peat dominates, smoke from the fire, but also some coffee and dark chocolate.

    A neat malt from Islay. Not more but also not less. Quite nice to drink, but it doesn't have to be a big bottle.
    • Nose
      Relatively fresh nose. Lots of citrus and mint. The smoke is also light and floral in character, but clear. A few fresh herbs are added. Buttery notes over time.
    • Taste
      A mixture of sweetness and spice / spiciness. Herbal tea with a lot of sugar candy. White pepper. Candied citrus. The smoke is sweet, herbal and spicy.
    • Finish
      Grilled steak with herb marinade. The smoke gets drier.

      sweet malt.. fresh cotton.. waxy lemons and oranges.. peach.. lavender.. alcohol pads and a visit to the dentist’s office
    • Taste
      88 88
      a bit fiery without being quite out of balance.. sweet on arrival, some nutmeg.. it opens up slowly.. with time, a strong and very tasty note of mushrooms and soy sauce develops.. the alcohol calmes down.. it is very good, without being complex.. a very quaffable dram (as they say)
    • Finish
      87 87
      earth and tobacco stay long on the tongue.. when this carantine is over i’m gonna go outside and take a big bite of a patch of grassy earth and this is exactly what i expect it to taste like!

    Very cool nose, but the body and finish are not so bright. Very good, especially considering the current price of 80 euros (January 2019)
    • Nose
      light and refreshing, light notes of iodine mixed with honey wax, mustard with sea salt. Spices appear a little later, ground black pepper and a little cinnamon. Standing in a glass shows coffee with black chocolate, a very cool nose.
    • Taste
      a lot of spices with iodine on a background of fresh wood, pleasantly burns and envelops
    • Finish
      woody with a slight touch of spices, a drop of olive oil, dark chocolate. medium duration
