An awesomely delicious Highland Park that — in terms of flavour profile — is so far away from the current onslaught of undisclosed Orkney whiskies, that I can't help but wonder if they changed something in the production regime since.
    • Nose
Hints of aniseed and port stewed pears, as well as dates, raisins and raw sugar, with just a small amount of honey. Touches of polished leather, cigar tobacco and cappuccino as well. Utterly delicious.
    • Taste
This is not slowing down in the least. Blackberries, ripe apple and dark chocolate, but also menthol and tobacco leaves, followed by orange zest and cinnamon.
    • Finish
Lingering spices (soft pepper notes) and subtle fruits. Sliver of smoke.

30yo HPs usually develop a good level of honey and heather - very typical
    • Nose
      89 89
Honey, spices, heather, hay, cigar tobacco, hints of vanilla, oak wood, iodine, whiffs of smoke, some yellow fruits, apple, pear, peach - really not bad
    • Taste
      90 90
Oily, honey, little fruity, good swetness, spices, some heather, hay, tobacco, more on yellow fruits, pepper, little ginger, oak wood - pretty good
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium long, warm, honey, spices, oak wood

Toffee, cooked fruits, vanilla, orange. Most of these 88/89 casks from GM are quality, although this one might not be among the best, still very good

There's a sense of angst that I don't like, and I don't have the enthusiasm for detailing it. See what everyone describes as chocolate? I don't agree. I think this bitterness is not in the same direction as chocolate, but just plain bitterness. Although it is not completely unacceptable, I feel that with this level of bitterness, I have passed a good wine. Life itself is hard enough, shouldn't drinking be sweet and pleasant?

The smell is still pretty good, much better than the current HP.

scbp-5551, the mediocre refilling of Shirley, the mediocre jerky feeling, is not surprising at all.
    • Nose
      86 86
The overall aroma is weak and empty, haystacks, green apples, lard, lots of old leather, jerky grapefruit peel. After waking up, the smell of old sherry barrels began to emerge, the smell of raw nut butter and a little bit of ripe mango were looming, but there is no doubt that the main notes must be green citrus peel oil, rubber, detergent, smelly Eggs, a bit like fake wine. After a full cup of waking up, the bad breath will be completely dissipated, and the old sherry barrel breath such as raw nuts will gradually occupy the main note, and the smell of fresh orange juice, peaches, ripe mangoes, old books, vanilla, chocolate powder and other breaths will emerge.
    • Taste
      84 84
Vanilla, green apple tartness with a touch of honey, followed by a lot of natural grapefruit peel bitterness, a slight detergent bitterness, and some soapy notes. The flavor is natural, but there is a chemical bitterness that is not within the scope of human ingredients. The latter part of the flavor is slightly too bitter, and the overall performance is quite satisfactory and acceptable. The wine has a strong sense of fat, high thickness and strong stimulation.
    • Finish
      83 83
Bitterness continues to the finish, dark chocolate, woody tannins.

What can you say about this HP - simply terrific! I already had the 29-year-old HP from 2018 from G&M (Cask 1087, Batch 18/084), which was very good, but this Highland Park here beats it again by a good deal. The interplay between the fruitiness and a light herbal note, combined with the wonderful oak, the aromatic HP smoke and the barely noticeable alcohol, is only very, very seldom encountered today in this complexity. This whisky is so complex that it can be rediscovered again and again. An absolute top malt, which, even at this high price, receives a definitive buy recommendation from me. I have seldom been allowed to drink a better HP.
    • Nose
      94 94
Cooked fruits, honey notes, fresh lemon, some oak and heather, cinnamon, plum jam, tobacco, toffee and coffee notes - complex and extremely multi-layered. Towards the end I get a slightly floral note in my nose, very nice.
    • Taste
      95 95
The taste is there immediately, powerful and intense on the tongue. Cooked red fruits, ripe blood orange, some black pepper, elegant oak notes, dark chocolate, hardly any bitterness. I would really like to chew this whisky, it is so velvety and creamy in my mouth. At the end some cinnamon and salt and caramel toffees, again boiled down fruits - a poem.
    • Finish
      94 94
The finish is long-lasting indeed. Nice smoky notes, dates, raisins, darker fruits, again some sea salt. Leather and tobacco, heather, notes of honey, ripe oranges with chocolate icing. A very harmonious finish that grandly rounds off the overall picture.

    • Nose
Many spices, sharp with wine notes, gradually wine notes come to the fore, fresh field herbs are added
    • Taste
Spicy, bright and felt much younger than there is, a lot of spices, vanilla and bitter chocolate
    • Finish
Spices, wine notes, then comes to the fore wood dryness, which I spoil the whole impression of whisky

  15. JohnScotWild scored this whisky 93 points Newbie

It was smooth from start to finish. Toffee straight off the bat with a slight spice and chocolate finish. I tried the 29 year which is great but this is slightly better. Another top whisky from the new connoisseurs range
    • Nose
Slight spice with the typical sweet sherry nose
    • Taste
I got toffee, chocolate and a little spice, absolutely beautiful
    • Finish
I nice linger on the young with slight chocolates aftertaste which was delightful
