Whisky Reviews for Glenallachie 2008

This is worthy of competing with the Glendronach Parliament, and that’s a huge compliment to a 10 year old. It wouldn’t win, for sure, but it’d be in the game. Impressive and wholesome malt on all accounts. The 78 point reviewer must have had a bad bottle or a bad day.
    • Nose
Thick with treacle and rum raisins
    • Taste
Full-bodied and very cask-forward, like any 1st fill fortified wine single cask expression should be (I think it's 1st fill). Delivers exactly what the nose promises, with some oak and more pronounced dried fruits - think thick date and fig compote.
    • Finish
Very long. One sip could last you a whole day.

The palate lacks integration and balance, two characteristics that I deem to be key in good whisky. I just can't in good conscience give this a high score, so I've decided to stick it in the average category.
    • Nose
An overpowering sweetness with lots of honey, mead and dark caramel notes. Some beeswax too, as well as a fair amount of oak, followed by soft spices like cinnamon, but also a tinge of menthol and tobacco. Certainly an attack of the senses.
    • Taste
There's a thick layer of fortified wine sweetness that needs to be penetrated to get to the core of this GlenAllachie, which is hard to reach actually. There's not much left of the original spirit. Slightly peppery, honeyed and with jammy fruits.
    • Finish
      Lingering sweetness, tannins, oak. Long.

    • Nose
      89 89
Honeycombs, peaches, floral theme (linden flower pollen), spices (cinnamon), light oak notes, old dry skin, wax, heather, wine notes
    • Taste
      85 85
the taste repeats the aroma in the main details - spices, apricots / peaches, then directly to the beekeeping shop - bee bread, propolis, honey honeycombs, wax ... In the end, quite energetic pepper bitterness ...
    • Finish
      84 84
medium duration, continues taste motifs - skin, wax shades, black pepper, oak theme
