A malty backbone supporting herbacious, sweet and fruity notes with a few spices sprinkled in.
    • Nose
It's green, sweet and malty. Caramel-glazed banana, wholegrain bread, notes of dried grass and a touch of fennel. There's an elegant touch of orchard fruits and stone fruits as well. Enjoyable.
    • Taste
Gentle spices and a warming sweetness upon arrival, but also gingerbread, crushed mint leaves and underripe banana. There are whispers of barley husks, replicating the malty influence already present on the nose.
    • Finish
Traces of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Medium in length.

  3. Koning scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

This Millstone is spicier than expected from 'American oak'. The finish is the best part!
    • Nose
      80 80
Not very expressive: some fresh laundry, bread, vanilla and candied fruits.
    • Taste
      81 81
Quite spicy with ginger and cinnamon on a malty sweet background with some caster sugar and vanilla. Has a slight 7-up like fizz.
    • Finish
      83 83
Spices take over, but are countered by juicy citrus fruits and a mineral note. Becomes a bit dry and cardboardy towards the end.

My first one of a flight of Millstone. Didn't really got close to their regular whiskies. Although I like their 100Rye and Special batches, I never tried their core range of regular whisky.
    • Nose
      83 83
Oaky, vanilla, fudge but still a little rough on the edges. Although this is quite a decent smell and maybe more mature then expected from a 10yo, there is something not really satisfying.
    • Taste
      78 78
Little thin arrival. There is some oak, vanilla and cream here. Not surprising as this is ex-bourbon. But there is a strange chemical note in the background which keeps me of liking it very much.
    • Finish
      78 78
Medium length. Again all the usual suspects from American oak are here. But again the chemical, almost plasticy note keeps coming around here.

Part of a Millstone tasting set. Millstone seems to surprise me time after time lately. It’s very own and recognizable character is something I like a lot every time. For me it’s what I associate with ‘typical Dutch’ somehow. Obviously I’m very curious for this set!
    • Nose
Sweet, smooth and dry. I immediately get that typical Millstone smell. It always reminds me of whole grain bread somehow. I like it since that’s giving the whisky a Dutch autograph to it for me. It gives green banana’s and vanilla sticks, hay and a whiff of mint. Pleasant and tasteful nose.
    • Taste
Very smooth upon arrival. It gives some waxiness, cinnamon, caramel, sweet apple and bounty and mint leafs a hit like making fresh tea. It’s a wee dry but in a pleasant way. Very palatable!
    • Finish
Again very smooth and well balanced! Some licorice gets through along side with vanilla, fudge and some tropical fruits like green banana again and a whiff of sweet peach. Somehow I get a little of a winegum kind of sensation.

I like this dram a lot. It’s not very complex but it is just good at what it does, balanced an tasteful! I like the recognizable Millstone character. For me it’s as good as an easy sipper can get.
