Incredibly balanced Dronach. No sulphur whatsoever.. for me.
Chocolate, raisins, lovely sherry notes. No bitterness, maybe some roasted coffee and lingering sweetness. Great dark cacao notes in the end. Superb!

Total sulphur bomb, never had before in a Glendronach

I can not understand these very high ratings, which is neither complex nor balanced. Have tried it for the third time now and am still disappointed. Since I prefer the 12, 15, 18, 21 or 1993 Master Vintage clearly. Way too woody in the back, so not dark chocolate or similar. but really grandma's old wardrobe. A few years earlier from the barrel would probably have stood him better.

    Sulphur-bomb.

I found the sulfur to be quite noticeable. The rest of the profile was fantastic, but the sulfur was distracting.

Intense treacle, brown sugar, cacao, beautiful. No sulphur here. Needs a little water to open up.

Overall a massive Glendronach, a very special one in deed. A rough and tough whisky. Like the peated nose!
    • Nose
      90 90
Hard hitting, dark chocolate, figs, resins, surprisingly slightly peated and i like that!
    • Taste
      89 89
Oily, Thick chocolate syrup, mouth watering, sweetness followed by spiciness...Sulphur notes but in a good way
    • Finish
      88 88
Long finish, ginger, oakiness lingers..hint of Peat & ash

if without sulphur, will be an excellent sherry cask.

Eyes: Brown sugar juice smells fragrance. Nose: Saltpeter, gunpowder, strong sulfur smell, shoe polish, nail polish, wake up for 30 minutes, faint ebony sauce, deep roasted coffee beans, tamarind sauce, a little cumin roast, smoked Meat, dark miso, heavy candied dried blueberries, black gunpowder smell too disturbing the smell.
Taste Palate: The thick plum sauce and the ebony soup with more ingredients are sweet and sour. Black tea, cigar leaves, shredded tobacco, fine black chocolate, fruit pits, and nuts appear in the middle section. This woody fragrance extends to the end. There is Assam milk tea at the end.
Final rhyme Finish: long, solid wood furniture, tobacco, dark dried fruit, raisins, cream. The retention of wood is quite obvious.
Body: No bitter base, heavy, oily, sticky, with tannins, medium sweetness, suitable sweet-sour ratio.

    Nose: 85/100
    Palate: 88/100
    Finish: 87/100
    Body: 88/100
    Overall: 87/100

Overall: This Single cask series is really impactful.

So we have Review bombing in the base now as well? O_o Or those minority sulphur smellers should probably recalibrate their noses :D There is no sulphur whatsoever here and our group tasted several drams of this fantastic liquid directly at the distillery. And don’t get me started about mentioning the crappy Master Vintage bottling as a comparison here.
