Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1995 SV

A very exciting and multi-layered whisky, which can boast a very opulent variety of flavors. He needs some time and with a drop of water, he shows very exciting pages that promise the connoisseur a promising time.

A pretty full-bodied dram, which at first glance can expect a good volume. Undiluted, the alcohol stands out first, then the scent of marzipan, milk chocolate and caramel. A light flint is heard as well as toasted wood. Powerful and complex.
With water reduced to 45% vol., Vegetable notes are added. Violets, thyme and the typical smell of beeswax. Then very nice honey and yellow fruits: mirabelles and apricots. Very nice nose!
    • Taste
      89 89
Undiluted, the Clynelish is powerful, very oily and with vegetal notes. A strong Sherryton as well as the brennische-typical taste of beeswax can be found. Caramel sweetness and a hint of bitter note appear on the palate. Nutty and herbaceous.
With a little water, the dram shows full and voluminous, with rich sherry, great herbal notes and tantalizing caramel. The obligatory beeswax remains here as well. Flint is to taste and supports the oak of the barrel. A very exciting arc of flavors.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium to long, honey, sherry and wax remain discreet on the palate, herbal notes can be found here again.

Actually a very pleasant sherry malt. What the nose promises does not stick with the palate. These maritime notes, as you have with other Clynelish ever, I miss completely. The barrel is already dominating.
    At the price a pity.

Typical dark sherry malt. Somewhat hard to get in the way with the time becomes more accessible. Sweet honey mixes with dark dried fruits. Oranges, ripe bananas and light cinnamon comes through. Alcohol is well integrated in my opinion. Great nose!
    • Taste
      85 85
Spicy, sharp onion with pepper. Can tolerate a few drops of water. Sweetness is barely noticeable, rather a fruity tart note of coffee and chocolate. The whole thing associated with a few spices such as cinnamon, ginger. Add to that a dry, sticky mouthfeel. Feels like dusty somehow.
He hardly convinces me in taste.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium-length finish, gets dry, beautiful oak remains dark chocolate. A trace of leather and / or tobacco becomes recognizable.
