  1. Malzbrenner scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A very exciting and multi-layered whisky, which can boast a very opulent variety of flavors. He needs some time and with a drop of water, he shows very exciting pages that promise the connoisseur a promising time.

A pretty full-bodied dram, which at first glance can expect a good volume. Undiluted, the alcohol stands out first, then the scent of marzipan, milk chocolate and caramel. A light flint is heard as well as toasted wood. Powerful and complex.
With water reduced to 45% vol., Vegetable notes are added. Violets, thyme and the typical smell of beeswax. Then very nice honey and yellow fruits: mirabelles and apricots. Very nice nose!
    • Taste
      89 89
Undiluted, the Clynelish is powerful, very oily and with vegetal notes. A strong Sherryton as well as the brennische-typical taste of beeswax can be found. Caramel sweetness and a hint of bitter note appear on the palate. Nutty and herbaceous.
With a little water, the dram shows full and voluminous, with rich sherry, great herbal notes and tantalizing caramel. The obligatory beeswax remains here as well. Flint is to taste and supports the oak of the barrel. A very exciting arc of flavors.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium to long, honey, sherry and wax remain discreet on the palate, herbal notes can be found here again.

This is how a great, successful sherry Clynelish must smell and taste for me. Perfect!
Dried and sweetened plums on the nose, the raisins with brown sugar and caramel, as it should be, but then also the salty, maritime-style distillery. And then, of course, beeswax like pulling candles. This fragrance and later taste is and remains unique to me with Clynelish. The alk is soft and well integrated, but gives a little kick so that the taste can spread great.
In the mouth the full load of beeswax, that's just great as the dram shows. Sure, there is also the typical sherry whisky somewhere, but Clynelish dominates with wax, salt, and oily-martial aromas, plus the slightly chalky / chalky, for which I do not find the right words to describe it.
So I like a whisky just perfect.
In the finish, everything remains the same, the complexity of the aromas does not decrease and shows all facets of the sherry, a little bitter oak and the distillery. Then a layer of wax remains in the mouth that still leaves the great taste in the mouth. And from me it should never go away!

    • Nose

Interesting: resin, linseed oil, sweet syrupy sherry, orchard fruits, apple, plum, apricot, citrussy and even some sour cherries. A bit floral as well with lavender and honey.
    • Taste
      90 90
Oily and creamy, more of the orchard fruits from the nose, mainly the apricots and plum, also more towards the sweet and bitter citrus, syrupy sweet, beeswax, honey, a little nutty and herbal with some mild wood spices.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium length: quite thick on the throat, waxy, apricot, acacia honey, herbal again with some clear drying wood notes.

  6. DoctorRockter scored this whisky 91 points Expert Junior

nose: vanilla, caramel, toffee, 90 points in my opinion
palate: sumptuous attack, elegant, wonderfully waxy, sweet, yet vanilla, oily, waxy, toffee, larzapane, white chocolate, light wood and sherry flavor, great clynelish, fully in line with the style of the distillery, personally I prefer it without adding water. 93 points
final: slightly short in the final, this affects the overall evaluation: 88 points
overall great great whisky, absolutely recommended to all clynelish fans and beyond

Actually a very pleasant sherry malt. What the nose promises does not stick with the palate. These maritime notes, as you have with other Clynelish ever, I miss completely. The barrel is already dominating.
    At the price a pity.
    • Nose
      88 88
Typical dark sherry malt. Somewhat hard to get in the way with the time becomes more accessible. Sweet honey mixes with dark dried fruits. Oranges, ripe bananas and light cinnamon comes through. Alcohol is well integrated in my opinion. Great nose!
    • Taste
      85 85
Spicy, sharp onion with pepper. Can tolerate a few drops of water. Sweetness is barely noticeable, rather a fruity tart note of coffee and chocolate. The whole thing associated with a few spices such as cinnamon, ginger. Add to that a dry, sticky mouthfeel. Feels like dusty somehow.
He hardly convinces me in taste.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium-length finish, gets dry, beautiful oak remains dark chocolate. A trace of leather and / or tobacco becomes recognizable.
