Whisky Reviews for Mortlach 1990 IM
2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 92.50 points
- The label mentions a barrel as cask type. Due to the large amount of bottles, this could be a misprint.
- Opened this bottle together with some friends at a bbq evening.
My mortlach muse was there too and introduced me to those nifty chieftains bottles.
My best whisky ever bottle is the 22yr old version of this style ( wb-id: 41206 ). If this is a 94 or 93... YES, it IS this good - then this one is a solid 92.
There are still "worlds" between the 22yr old, wich seems to be the best of them all...
Also tried the 25yr old bottling with 46% - it's lovely for itself, but does not come close to the 22yr and this 27 version of it.
Nose: a bit more subtle than the 22yr old. Wood notes, sherry, peppery, alcohol is very subtle
Mouth: fruity, fresh, sherry notes. Keep it in your mouth for to long, it gets peppery as well.
Finish: awesome, but tends towards bitterness after a while.
Conclusion: I don't know where this bottle is from, I bought it for a very unreasonable price at a whisky auction (came down to 404€ with shipping and fees) and do not regret it a moment.
But compared to the 22yr I could by for 280€ this was quite an invest and I plan to enjoy it with friends only... so the price does not matter in the end.
Very high-end stuff for me.
