  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A nice, full and rounded sherry dram with a fruity undercurrent and no sulfur or other oddities. I couldn't see myself paying hundreds of €, £, or $ for it though, and would probably feel an instinctive need to look down upon anyone who would, because qualitywise this is no better than a Glenlivet 12 for the Italian market from the same period is, and that bottle can be had for little more than €100 in the year 2021 even though the whisky market has gone so crazy I expect it to be sectioned, sedated, and possibly put down any moment now.
    • Nose
A nicely dirty smoke and tons of old sherry. The oak's pretty interesting in that you can feel the tannins on the nose, but the distillate's fattiness and slight smoke keep them in check. Tree sap and apple jam, some syrup, an elegant, faint spiciness, bitter oranges, unripe mangos and brown sugar. Some OBE in the form of soapiness, so buyer beware: these bottles are getting so old you're unlikely to experience a pristine Macallan from 40 years ago if you buy and open one of these now.
    • Taste
Slightly flat on the tongue, having clearly dropped down from 43% during its time in the bottle. Still pretty good. Smoke, leather, gritty tannins, lots of dates, some dried prunes. I'm having a tough time finding the fruit I found on the nose here, except for oranges. This is a quality sherry dram, but not stellar.
    • Finish
Oaky, with soft chocolate notes and fatty undertones. Anise comes in late. The finish is a bit flat and fleeting, which I guess is a result of being a very old 43% bottle.

  3. Jonathan Kleß scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

    From a mini:
A bottling with a legacy for a reason!
    • Nose
Rich and harmonious, sweet and spicy sherry, floral perfumes, elderflower, chamomile, toffee. Pronounced notes of blackberries, black forest gateau, marzipan, cranberry sauce, some game, antique furniture, sandalwood, hints of coal smoke, engine grease...
    • Taste
Immediate sweet and sour arrival, great strength. Confectionery, red fruits, lots of ripe blackberries, sugared currants, amarena cherries, grape jelly, elderberry syrup.
Grand marnier, bittersweet chocolate, liqorice, menthol, bits of leather... Rather perfect sherried profile, with astounding balance and body.
    • Finish
Medium, chewy, caramel, earthy peat, ashes, resins, bay leaf, almonds and red fruit compote.

  4. mds51 scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Sherry. Cherries, some wood, strawberries, slightly sour, red apples, oranges.
    • Taste
Krischen, seasoning, vanilla, a touch of oak, caramel.
    • Finish
A hint of spiciness is kept briefly, then comes a slightly sour aftertaste.
