A comparison between two Ledaigs I found interesting. Priced on the same level, same Fassart, but a few years apart.

Short comparison between Ledaig 2007/2018 52.8% Whisky-Doris WID: 130749 and the Ledaig 1999/2016 51.5% The Whisky Cask Company WID: 81733.

In terms of color, they are very close to you. The TWCC may be a little bit darker.

The WD is neatly smoky in the nose and also quite fresh and cool. Menthol cigarette. The fruits go in the direction of citrus fruit. Cliché sea breeze.
The TWCC, on the other hand, is a lot calmer. The smoke is withdrawn. The malt is not as fresh as the WD. Warmer wood notes are present. The fruits are not that fresh any more. Although also towards citrus fruits, but now rather candied.

In the mouth, the WD is still intense, but not as fresh as in the nose. It comes through a lot of sweetness. Paired with the strong smoke. From the wood is not so much to feel first. Towards the end she says hello and it gets drier.
In the mouth the same game in the TWCC as in the nose. He is less excited. Also nice sweetness here. Overall, the TWCC looks fuller. Then some herbs. In short, funnily a reminder of cannabis. In the finish, the smoke is then surprisingly colder and drier.

Both good malts. I will probably not buy both of them. The WD is too expensive for the offered and the age. The TWCC somehow offers me too little depth for old age.

Hits you with an intense wall of smoke and salt that parts to reveal honey and fruit.

Citrus fruits, menthol, stable, some licgt smoke, tarmac, smoked meats, it is a Ledaig alright, but not a very typical one.
    • Taste
      87 87
more sweet honey and vanilla tones, some sharp alcohol spike, smoke, seawater, earthy.
    • Finish
      87 87
milk chocolate, leather, peat, earthy, ends bit liquorice like.

Smoke, cold ash, cream, petrol. Intense, not very complex and a little inharmonious.
    • Taste
      88 88
Peat smoke, rhubarb, citrus and some honey. Fine sweetness, creamy and somewhat balanced. Pronounced medium intensity
    • Finish
      89 89
Rhubarb, biscuit, peat, and very peppery. Moderately harmonious, hot and medium to long finish.

A nice, subtle dram that speaks in a very soft voice. A wonderful, Springbankian nose followed by a murmuration of taste notes that make me really struggle whether i should buy a whole bottle or maybe just one more sample.

Car engine oil, citrus, cow dung, freshly dug up earth, menthol and tobacco.. nice balance between peat and spirit, not overly complex, but enough to make it interesting and memorable. A Springbank-y character.
    • Taste
      86 86
Slight alcohol bite, followed by lemons and shy peat. A soft bitter note. The taste is a let down after the promising nose, this whisky is almost in hiding. A bit tamer with time, the peat comes to the fore, but in the same understated tone. Sweetness also, but not much, just a sprinkle on the top.
    • Finish
      85 85
Aromatic and herbal, a bit peppery, fresh, medium-long in the soft voice that seems to be the characteristic of this whisky, one that you really have to pay attention to in order to hear what it has to say.
