Whisky Reviews for Aultmore 2009 vW

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.55 points

To be honest there a chance I would identify this as a bourbon in a blind tasting, at least when nosing it. The brightly fresh (grassy, green fruits) Aultmore destillate is a bit overpowered by the first fill cask.

Clearly first fill bourbon cask, almost smells like a bourbon: loads of vanilla, raspberry, even some glue. Has more to offer however with a fresh malty side: cut grass, aniseed, rhubarb, pear, green apple and lemon grass.
    • Taste
      85 85
It's quite hot (high alcohol) and very sweet. Vanilla, cotton candy, limoncello, banana, grapefruit, malt sugar and a bit peppery.
    • Finish
      83 83
Sweet fruits (raspberry, peach, sweet lemons), vanilla, white chocolate. It has almost a sticky sweetness, countered just a bit by savoury soy sauce and some citrus oils.

  2. Rowald Sweet Empire scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Proper Aultmore distillate. Very fruity (fresh green apples - granny smith) and a pleasant sweetness. The wood is not too active but well in balance with the spirit character. Give it a few drops/teaspoon of water and 20 minutes to breathe/warm up and it's ready to go.

Powerful Aultmore, quite intense with kind of fragile flavours: you have to look for it. Therefore, it is tricky to match with such an high ABV but a few drops of water does the trick.

One would expect a pretty heavy whisky with it's >60%, but actually it's relatively friendly. Lots of sweetness, some bourbon comparisons. Fresh and nice, really a pleasant dram.

Very fresh and fruity, green apples, sweet, even a bit bourbon-like. vanilla and some corn. Only a little alcohol for such a high Abv. Also some candy, 'spekkies'.
    • Taste

Full, some pepper but quite friendly actually for such a high Abv. Sweet, caramel, vanilla and candy-like.

Now it's getting a little more powerful, peppers. Still sweet and friendly, again this bourbon-esque feeling, vanilla. Pretty long.
