  1. LordBellamy scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

with water: the whisky becomes softer, rounder, creamier, the fruit notes become stronger, it goes really well with water, a real swimmer

Conclusion: A great bottling from the broker, especially with water it is really good. However, almost nothing remains of the orange note of the distillery character
    • Nose
Soft leather, sweet fruit (apple), sugar cane, red love apple from the fair, alcohol is well integrated, but now and then a little pepper, a little peach and apricot, and vanilla notes come out
    • Taste
strong start, not as oily as expected, rum sweetness with apple and peach, the alcohol is much more evident here than in the nose
    • Finish
long and very intense, very creamy, vanilla, creme brulee with apple pieces, then the oak grabs the back and brings flavor and subtle bitterness into play

First in a sherry and then in a rum barrel, sounds like a weird experiment, but it's not. The barrel character is not dominant and what remains is a classic old malt from Speyside.
    • Nose
      89 89
sweet, light-fruity, floral, lots of vanilla, fresh apples, apricots, lemon zest, old oak furniture, milk chocolate and a pinch of cinnamon
    • Taste
      88 88
soft, creamy and dark but with small corners and edges, a lot of old oak (think that at least one of the barrels was made of European oak), slightly tropical like bananas and mango, with alpine herbs, dark maple syrup, lots of vanilla and a hint of eucalyptus
    • Finish
      88 88
long, velvety, caramel and dark oak aromas remain

    Blind tasting - advent calendar 2020 - door 5

Nose: alcohol is quite dominant, grassy, floral notes after a few moments.
A bit of fresh lemon still, but otherwise quite closed without water.

Pear, green apple, some bitterness and also sour notes. Alcohol is present. Warm, also spicy notes (maybe a bit of oak?) But rather reserved.

    Fresh, floral, rather long.
    Gets a little drier.

not a simple malt, but I liked it because of the rough edges
the leather note reminds me a lot of the Glenfiddich 21 Gran Reserver which I like very much
the rum barrel is only slightly there, but that fits me exactly
the finish cannot compete with the nose and palate; is too bad
    • Nose
good leather !!, slightly spicy, molasses ?, slightly metallic, old oak, vanilla
with water: fresh, lots of light-colored fruit, peach, light-colored apple
    • Taste
soft and silky on the palate
Sweet, malt comes, menthol / mint, grain (like muesli flakes)
with water: a lot of banana, light leather, light woodruff, green herbs
    • Finish
      medium to long
spicy, molasses ?, dark sugar, a somehow indefinable note
with water: becomes tart and bitter, spicy pastries, eggs?
