    Color: Light Amber

Nose: Initial impression isn't particularly great. There seems to be dark fruit (plums) muddled with a muted but still not particularly appealing varnish. I'm getting some honey, as well. It's hard to describe, but this feels as though it's pulling in elements from both a light and dark style and thus accomplishing neither particularly well. Other than that, there's not a ton worth commenting upon here--pretty simple and inoffensive.

Taste: Not any better, unfortunately. It's thin and under-powered at 43%. Again, it's muddled, but this time the honey and the bitterness do an awkward dance. Also yet again, not much else to delve into here. Or maybe I just don't want to parse it out when I'm disappointed like this.

Finish: Bitter honey, but I will say it's not particularly short.

Comments: I've been through a bottle of the Glengoyne 25 yo, and that was a total stunner. It was what Macallan is supposed to be like and one-fifth the price of the former's 25 yo OB. Here, there's nothing like that. Now, I'm not so unrealistic as to expect a 15 yo at 43% to compete with the 48% 25 yo that was clearly matured entirely in quality sherry casks. However, I get nothing that even clearly relates them. There's obviously some sherry maturation at work in this vatting, but it's very restrained. The mixture's aim is indubitably a "rounded" style, that is, what experienced drinkers would dismissively call "smooth." Sad to say, even in that dumbed-down style, there are still better exemplars out there. Expendable.
